DID YOU KNOW? Ferrero Rocher chocolate is inspired by Our Lady of Lourdes🙏
Michele Ferrero (the driving force behind the modern Ferrero empire, including Nutella and Ferrero Rocher) was a deeply devout Catholic with a particular devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes. He reportedly made annual pilgrimages to the Lourdes sanctuary (often bringing employees along) and attributed much of his company’s success to her intercession.
He is quoted as saying:
“The success of Ferrero we owe to Our Lady of Lourdes; without her we can do little.”
The name “Rocher” directly comes from the French word for “rock,” referencing the Rocher de Massabielle — the exact rocky grotto in Lourdes where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.
Many also note that the chocolate’s signature bumpy, hazelnut-studded surface and crinkled golden foil were intentionally designed to evoke the rugged, rocky appearance of that sacred grotto — turning a simple treat into a subtle tribute.
It’s a lovely example of how personal faith can quietly shape even something as everyday as a chocolate!
