The 111th Annual Session of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention has ended in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, with the adoption of a new Constitution, paving the way for a more decentralized Convention. Convening with the Grace Baptist Church in Zwedru, Baptists from all walks of life passed all prepositions of the Constitution. The New constitution divides the Convention into five regions supervised by Regional Vice Presidents.
The new constitution also provides that each county will now have a County Coordinator instead of County Vice President as referenced in the old constitution. It also provides the creation of additional two Vice Presidents positions, National Vice President for Administration and a National Vice President for Ministry.
The National Vice President for Administration becomes the Chief Administrative Officer of the Convention (CAO) and will be responsible for coordinating, administering and executing all secretariat activities of the Convention in consultation and coordination with the President, Executive Committee and all other officers, commissions, committee and auxiliaries of the Convention. He shall collect and distribute all information to member churches, institutions and mission partners of the Convention; and shall make representations to member churches, institutions and mission partners of the Convention on behalf of the President and the Executive Committee of the Convention.
The National Vice President for Ministry will supervise the Regional Vice Presidents and make sure that Baptist churches in the fifteen (15) counties remain active and functional. The National Vice President for Ministry of the LBMEC is empowered to supervise the Regional Moderators and make sure that Baptist Associations in all five (5) Regions follow Baptist doctrine and practices.
As regards the titles and positions of those heading the various auxiliaries of the Convention, they have now been changed to National Director, National Vice Director for Administration, National Vice Director for Ministry, etc., Also, the various auxiliaries will now be referred to as Unions instead of Departments or Assemblies. This means, the Liberia Baptist Sunday Convention is now called the Liberia Baptist Sunday School Union, the Liberia Baptist Youth Assembly is now called the Liberia Baptist Youth & Young People Union, and the Liberia Baptist Men’s Department will now be called the Liberia Baptist Men Union. The Liberia Baptist Woman Missionary Union maintains its original name.
The new constitution also divided the 15 counties into the Five Associations of the Convention. Counties under the direct supervision of the Providence Baptist Association are Montserrado, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount, while Margibi, Grand Bassa and Rivecess fall under the Calvary Baptist Association. Counties under the Macedonian Baptist Association are B**g, Lofa and Gbarpolu , while Nimba, Grand Gedeh and Rivergee fall under the Anthony Jonah Baptist Association. The Eliza George Baptist Association accounts for Grand Kru, Maryland and Sinoe Counties.
The five days assembly held under the theme: Laborers Together: Strengthening our Unity, was graced by Seventy-Nine (79) Churches with more than three hundred delegates in attendance. Bishop Dr. James Selle of the Episcopal Church of Liberia served as Guest Preacher at the 111th Annual Session. See you in Foya, Lofa County, 2027.
