Here's something I've been thinking about.
Sometimes, the reason we don't have the energy to pursue the things that truly matter is because we are constantly leaking mental energy.
And there's actually a scientific explanation for this.
Psychologists call it rumination. It's when you repeatedly replay negative experiences, mistakes, disappointments and worries in your mind.
Here's what happens: When you keep replaying a stressful experience, your brain and body can continue responding to that stress even when the actual event is over.
When you constantly criticize yourself, you also create additional emotional stress.
Think about it.
You wake up in the morning, and before you've even started your day, you've already spent time regretting yesterday, worrying about tomorrow and talking yourself out of what you need to do today.
You are mentally exhausting yourself before you've even begun your work!
Mental fatigue can affect your concentration, decision-making and ability to regulate your emotions.
So by the time you need to pursue your goals, build something meaningful or fulfil your assignment, you are already struggling to show up.
And then you wonder why you lack consistency, motivation and energy.
Sometimes, what you are calling burnout may also be compounded by the way you are relating to yourself internally.
This is why renewing your mind is so important.
You have to learn to stop rehearsing what went wrong and start directing your thoughts towards what is true, what is possible and what God says about you.
Remember, you can correct yourself without condemning yourself. You can learn from your past without constantly punishing yourself.
You cannot afford to spend your mental energy fighting yourself and then expect to have the energy to build what God has called you to build.
It's time to REWIRE your thinking!
