WHO DO YOU WALK WITH? (Part 11)

1 Timothy 1:18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
19 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,
20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.

We conclude on the topic we have by raising a warning against walking with the wrong company. Sometimes believers are not keen or aware of the danger of walking in wrong relationships.

He who walks with the wise will be wise. If you keep company with righteous people, you will learn the ways of the Lord.

Apostle Paul admonishes Timothy to take care of his conscience and faith. He refers to two gentleman that erred in their faith – “Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.”

Scripture is full of warnings against following wicked men. Look at the example of Cain, Balaam and Korah;
Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
12 These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; (Jude 1:11, 12)

Cain, Balaam and Korah are classified together as examples of wickedness. Cain killed his brother Abel – the first murder on earth. Balaam was a prophet for hire – exchanging prophecy for profit. Korah led a rebellion against the Lord and His servant Moses.

Influencers are not always in the Lord’s business. There are people drawing crowds around themselves but leading them astray. Apostle Paul commanded Timothy to be a good example; Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 1 Tim. 4:12

Beloved, be the example of faith, perseverance and conduct!

PRAYER: Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.” (Heb. 13:7) Lord, make me a godly example.

WHO DO YOU WALK WITH? (Part 10)

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life--
2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us--
3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

Here Apostle John writes the epistle to reveal Christ whom he had the privilege of walking. He describes Him as the life that was manifested. Jesus is the One who bears and gives eternal life – “that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us.”

Why is it important to learn and know Christ as taught by John? John gives us the answer; “that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.”

Apostle John want the church to have fellowship. ‘That you may have fellowship with us’ means that you may share in the same life and position as we have in Christ.

The Lord want His people to have fellowship with Him and one another. This is clearly spelt out in the prayer of Jesus to the Father;

"Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.” John 17:11

Jesus prayed that all those who believe in Him may be one. How then can you forsake the fellowship and the company of believers and claim you are still in God? How can you claim ‘you didn’t leave God, you left the church?’ How can you love the world and the Lord at the same time?

Can you be wiser than Jesus who prayed that all the saints may be one – in fellowship and company with each other? Jesus also prayed;
20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
21 "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Beloved, treasure the fellowship and company of believers.

PRAYER: "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. (Jn. 17:21)

WHO DO YOU WALK WITH? (Part 9)

Psalms 119:62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, Because of Your righteous judgments.
63 I am a companion of all who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts.
64 The earth, O LORD, is full of Your mercy; Teach me Your statutes.

Beloved, welcome to a new month, an opportunity to love the Lord. It is also mid-year. What a faithful God we serve, to have another wonderful season? Praise the Lord.

We continue to ask ourselves, ‘who do you walk with?’ He who walks with the wise will be wise, but he who keeps company with fools will be destroyed. The company you keep shapes your life and eventually destiny.

Hear the Psalmist; “I am a companion of all who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts.”

Look at the company here – those who fear the Lord and keep His precepts or word. Jesus gives us a great reason why we should keep company with the righteous saying;

"Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matt. 18:19, 20

When two of us agree on a matter and pray over it, Jesus promised an answer from the Father. Again, where two or three gather together in His name, He will be right there in their midst. Who assemblies with those who hate the Lord? Is it not evil spirits who works as counterfeit of the work of God?

Beloved, do you love those who love the Lord? Do you delight in the company “of all who fear Him, And of those who keep His precepts?”

We learn from Jesus; For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: "I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You." (Heb. 2:11, 12)

May you be found in the company and assembly of the Lord.

PRAYER: And again: "I will put My trust in Him." And again: "Here am I and the children whom God has given Me." (Heb. 2:13) Lord, I delight in Your company!
