“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father“s commandments, and abide in his love.” (John 15:10 KJV)

What is the mark of our love for Christ? How is it that we know that we are loved by Him?

All that love the Saviour should continue in their love to him, and take all occasions to show it. They are to show their love to him by keeping his commandments. If the same power that first shed abroad the love of Christ's in our hearts, did not keep us in that love, we should not long abide in it. Christ's love to us should direct us to love each other. Previously in a chapter 13, Jesus gave them a new commandment, that they (and we) love another as He loves them (us). This is a selfless sacrificial love that was displayed in Jesus dying for our sin (Rom 5:8). If we love God we will live a similar life, freely giving ourselves that His will is done. The idea of abiding in His love is not so we can keep it, but that we have the benefit and the power of it.

Prayer
Lord thank you for your great love and for your commandments. Empower us to demonstrate that we are in your love and your love is in us by keeping your Word and loving those around us as you love us. Amen

“Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4 KJV)

What should be the end result of our prayers? We are directed to pray that “His will be done” (Matt 6:10). Also, we have been given the promise that our prayers will be answered when we pray according to His will (1 John 5:14). Here we see that it is the will of God that all men be saved. That should be the desire of our prayers. Think about the situation that Paul and Timothy find themselves, who it is that Paul is saying they should prayer to come to salvation. This is in the midst of the Roman Empire, the rulers are corrupt, idolatrous, persecuting the church, and harsh to the people. This is not the group we would want to be saved or could ever think could be saved; however, the direction given is to pray for their conversion, not because it will bring ease to the church, but so that God’s will is done and He is glorified.

When we see the current world situations, how do we pray? How do we see those around us who are engaged in sin and rebellion? Our prayer for them mist be, Father bring them to a knowledge of Your truth and salvation according to your willl.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”(John 14:23 KJV)

How do we know that we love Jesus and love God? What is the evidence of this relationship? It is more than just making a statement or affirmation of belief, true love requires action. The requirement of our faith is not in our membership but in our following the Lord. This is how God will demonstrate that He has come and is manifest toward us (declaring Himself). This is the sign that God lives (abides) within. What an amazing statement that Gid would personally and permanently live with and in us. We now understand that this is by the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit. The sure sign of our love for God and His abiding in us is that we keep the Word of Jesus (His commandment). The surest evidence of our love to Christ is, obedience to the laws of Christ. There are spiritual tokens of Christ and his love given to all believers. Where sincere love to Christ is in the heart, there will be obedience.

Love will be a commanding, constraining principle; and where love is, duty follows from a principle of gratitude. God will not only love obedient believers, but he will take pleasure in loving them, will rest in love to them. He will be with them as his home.
As we saw a few weeks ago, this new commandment was to love one another as He loves us. Are we keeping His Word? Is the evidence that Jesus loves us and that we love Him shown in our lives? Does He abide within us? Do we love one another and keep His Words?

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also”. (John 14:3 KJV)

We are given great assurance of the love of Christ to all believers. Jesus has finished telling the Apostles that one of them would betray Him, that they would deny Him and be scattered, and that He would die; however, this is not the end of the story but merely a pause that highlights the grace and power of God in Christ. The promise is that His departure was for a purpose (to prepare Heaven for those that follow faithfully after God) and that He will return for His own to be reunited in glory. He thinks it ought to be enough to be assured that they shall be where He is and in His keeping. There is another side of this promise though to the ones that will not believe, He is returning and will judge and separate forever from Himself those that have rejected God and Christ. How does this promise affect us today? Are we looking forward to this reunion? Does this drive our work for Him?

“Lord, we believe your promises and look forward to the reunion with You. Empower us to bring this message of hope to the world while we await your return (or our departure) that many may come to trust in this truth for Your glory and honor. Amen”

“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3 KJV)

Our hope is not in ourselves but in the One in whom we place our hope. The Lord (other very old manuscripts read "God") is to be believed in as faithful to His promises (1Th 5:24; 2Ti 2:13). Faith (belief put in practice) on the part of man answers to faithfulness on the part of God. Because of this fact, It is solely in Him that we are established and on whom we can build our lives. When we are firmly built upon the truth of God, He will keep us from the evil one. This is the prayer that Jesus commanded the disciples to pray for themselves (which is what Paul prays for the Thessalonians). If we build our lives on the faithfulness of God, we will be kept from the power of the evil one.

Prayer: dear Lord thank you for your faithfulness that is never ending and upon which we solely place our trust. We are thankful that you have given us the promise of life eternal based upon your work and Word. We pray that you would keep us fully from the power of evil and deliver us from our temptations of self. Be glorified in all that we say and do today. Amen.

“Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.” (John 13:10 KJV)

Have you been washed by the blood of Jesus? If so then that work, based upon the Words of Him is final. Peter asked Jesus to wash him a new, so that there was a certainty that Peter was a part of the body of Christ. The Lord answered that He had already washed Peter clean, all that was required was the feet. This is reflected in us today, in that there are still times when we pick up the sins of the world, the filth in which we walk; that need to be cleansed or removed. We are still clean before the Lord; however, there is a need for repentance before we enter into fellowship with Him. Is there anything in your life that she needs to wash away? Humbly come before Him and admit this, He will remove it and we then have fellowship with Him. (1 John 1:9). If you are not sure that you have been washed fully by the blood of Christ, baptized with Him unit death, then today is the day that you should ask Him for this.

Prayer: Lord, remove the sin and weight of this world that I so easily pick up as I walk daily. Thank you for the promise that we are forever cleansed by your blood and we don’t have to continue to make a sacrifice for sin. Help us today to walk in the newness of this life for your glory. Amen.

“For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.” (1 Thessalonians 4:7 KJV)

We are called to be holy, but what does the really mean and how do we live this out? The life that is sanctified and holy to God starts with the idea that we are not our own, but are His. “For we have been bought with a price, the blood of Christ Jesus”. We then realize that we are different and are set apart, God has called us to this difference for His purpose. Holiness is the desire and duty of every Christian. It must be in all affairs, in every condition, and towards all people. The definition of holiness is purity, being true and whole. We are told be holy as God is holy. (1 Peter 1:5). This means that we are true to His standards, the Word of God. We are mixed up with other ideas or the truth of God and the desires of the flesh. In aspiring after this renewal of the soul unto holiness, strict restraint must be put upon the appetites and senses of the body, and on the thoughts and natural tendencies of our minds, which lead to wrong uses of them. This is done not for our own glory, but to shine his light to all people, that God our Father would be glorified.
Today, make the choice to live a life of holiness, set apart, dedicated to the glory of God. Purify yourself by the washing of your mind with the Word of God. And live empowered by His Holy Spirit for the purpose of glorifying our Father.
