“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12 KJV)

What is the source of our confidence? When we face difficulties how do we continue to go in the manner that God has called us? Paul is facing death and is imprisoned for the cause of the Gospel. He has trusted his life, his soul, and eternal interests, to the Lord Jesus. No one else could deliver and secure his soul through the trials of life and death. This trust and faith is what has allowed him to say that he is not ashamed , there is no regret or second thoughts. Why? He has the surety of the one in whom he has placed his full confidence. He has a full knowledge of Christ , His purpose and His power. This is more than a mere intellectual understanding, but literally to see and have a relationship with. This knowledge and conviction provides the confidence that empowers Paul (and should also be for us) to have the hope to continue in ministry and the assurance of life and life eternal. Do you know Jesus? Are you persuaded by His Word, work, and Holy Spirit. What is the result in your life? Do not be ashamed or fearful in the situation of today, but have the confidence that He who has called you will keep you until the day when you will see Him in he apostle had trusted his life, his soul, and eternal interests, to the Lord Jesus. No one else could deliver and secure his soul through the trials of life and death.

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: “ (1 Timothy 1:5 KJV)

What is the point of our lives? Why have we been given the doctrines of the Bible and commissioned to proclaim the Word of God to all people? The point is the the sum and end of the law and of the Gospel alike, and that where in the Gospel is the fulfilment of the spirit of the law in its every essential jot and tittle (Ro 13:10). This end is found in the never ending unconditional love of God. The foundation of this in our lives is through faith (1Ti 1:4), the "end" of faith is love (1Ti 1:14; Tit 3:15), which is demonstrated by the grace of Jesus Christ by which we are saved from our sins (Eph 2:8-9). This end is shown not for our own benefit but because of the right heart motive (because of our love towards God) which will be revealed not by words alone but by our good conscience and lifestyle.

Is this the reason you live each day? Is the love of Jesus shown in us? Do we live by faith that is real?

In what is our confidence based? Or more importantly in whom is our confidence? In the midst of suffering and when trouble comes where is your assurance? The apostle Paul was fully persuaded (by the work of the Holy Spirit demonstrated by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ) that God will keep His promises to us. He had trusted his life, his soul, and eternal interests, to the Lord Jesus. No one else could deliver and secure his soul through the trials of life and death. There is a day coming, when our souls hope will be revealed. The hope of the lowest real Christian rests on the same foundation as that of the great apostle. He also has learned the value and the danger of his soul; he also has believed in Christ; and the change made in his soul, convinces the believer that the Lord Jesus will keep him to his heavenly kingdom.
