WitneyBenefice

WitneyBenefice We are six Church of England churches, some large and some small, serving the town of Witney and the villages round about.

We are an inclusive church embracing a hospitable Christianity. St Mary's is Witney's parish church, the home of services for Witney Feast, Remembrance Day and the Mayor's Carol Service at Christmas. Many people come here for weddings, christenings and funerals. Many more come for concerts and other events throughout the year. It is one of the churches of the Parish of Witney, and you can find mor

e information about events and church life by following the link. We are an inclusive church embracing a hospitable Christianity, committed to living our lives in the love, joy and hope of the risen Christ. We are here to worship God and to help each other to grow in faith. If you would like to come along or get in touch with us, we will be delighted to welcome you. The church building of St Mary's is huge and very old, one of the oldest buildings in Witney and one of the biggest in West Oxfordshire. Its origins go back to Norman times but the present building is mostly 13th century and was dedicated in 1243. Standing on Church Green near the town centre, and with its spire a landmark for miles around, it is hard to miss. Please consider making a financial contribution to the Parish of Witney. Our vision is to continue to server our community for many more years but we are reliant on whatever you choose to give which would be both hugely appreciated and gratefully received. Giving Thanks for Francis Rumsey’s 15 Years of Musical Leadership

After 15 years as Organist and Choirmaster at St Mary’s, Francis Rumsey is stepping down from the role. During that time, Francis has made an enormous contribution to the worship and musical life of the church. Through his faithful leadership of the choir, his playing at services and concerts, and his commitment to St Mary’s distinctive musical tradition, he has enriched the life of our congregation immeasurably.

At his final service in the role, Francis thanked the congregation and choir for their friendship and support. He assured us that he is taking “a backseat, not a no seat” and will continue to play for services as an occasional organist.

We thank Francis for all he has given to St Mary’s and are very glad that he will remain part of our worshipping life.

Giving Thanks for Julia Bee’s Ministry

At the Sung Eucharist on Sunday 2 August, we gave thanks for Julia Bee as she stepped down from her long standing role as Anna Chaplain.

Julia’s ministry has brought faithful and generous pastoral care to many people, particularly older members of our churches and wider community. We are deeply grateful for all that she has given to this work.

Julia will continue her licensed ministry as an authorised funeral minister. We prayed for God’s blessing on her as she begins this next chapter of ministry.
