"A soul cake, a soul cake, please good missus a soul cake. An apple, a pear, a plum or a cherry, any good thing to make us all merry....."
Years and years ago when bedding down for winter (and specifically at All Hallows Eve ie Halloween) the poor would ask for food from those who were wealthier and in return they would pray for the souls of the departed of that household.
As part of the Halloween Trail on 31st October Gilmorton church will be open for you to light a candle for a loved one and in return receive a soul cake (until they run out).
If anyone is able to bake soul cakes please let us know - and, ideally, let us have them by Friday so we can wrap them.

A busy weekend at Gilmorton church:
Saturday 5th September - 10:30am church cleaning and churchyard maintenance; 2:30pm visiting bellringers.
Sunday 6th September - 11:15am* morning service including baptism and communion; 3:30pm onwards Hymns and Pimm's (and nibbles, cakes, tea, coffee) - see "invitation".
* please note the slightly later than normal start - illness has led to a late change of visiting clergy.

Sunday 16th August: Village tea and cakes at Gilmorton Church. We look forward to seeing you there - 3pm to 4:30pm. Have you cake and eat it there and then and/or take some away for later!

Tea and cakes and Teddy Bears' picnic at Gilmorton Church on Sunday afternoon. Please bring your family and friends with you but don't forget your teddy! The weather forecast looks good ("sunny intervals"), so we hope to be outside church in the in the churchyard. Please bring a blanket to sit on. Games and activities plus best dressed teddy.

We also bake cake to takeaway so you can sample more later!
Sit outside and enjoy the summer sun or inside church - it's a really cool place to be!

If you want nourishment of a different kind there'll be bread and w**e during the communion service in the morning (11am start).
Also, if you have an hour to spare there's church cleaning from 10:30am on Saturday 4th July.
