How did your church/online service go today? Did it bless and encourage you?
We would love to hear in the comments.
Here is a summary of how the sermon spoke to me. If you have any insights please share in the comments.
At Frome Christian Fellowship George Litanueiks preached on 1 Peter 1.
Here is verses 13 to 16
Be Holy
13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

As the world gets darker and the signs that Jesus return is imminent we should indeed be sober and vigilant. We need to be like the 5 wise virgins, who had their lamps trimmed with oil. They were looking out for the Bridegrooms arrival. In Jewish marriage traditions the bride groom arrived when he had the home prepared for the couple to live in. He would sometimes arrive in the dead of the night with no prior warning. Let us be ready for the rapture when the bridegroom Jesus Christ comes for his church which is his bride or if it is sooner for the day we die.
Verse 14 really jumped out at me, 'As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance'
I think it could be so easy to partake of bad habits that God has been delivering us from through the power of his Holy spirit.
I think if we neglect spending time in prayer and bible study, we get weaker in our spirits and then the temptation to do things in our old ways before we knew Jesus, can creep up upon us and if we are not vigilant overcome us.
When this happens it is best not to beat ourselves up but to say sorry to God and be determined to get back into the word and prayer.
Spiritual Reminders for Your Journey
Renewing the Mind: Romans 12:2 reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds rather than conforming to the patterns of the world.
A Way Out: 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises that God is faithful and will always provide a way out of temptation so you can endure it.

I believe God's way out is the power of his word, the power of his blood, the power of the Holy Spirit and the authority of his name.
Revelation 12 v 11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

Romans 8:11
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies ]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

In Christian teachings, this "resurrection power" is not just for the afterlife. It is believed to be available for daily life to provide strength, overcome sin and fear, and facilitate spiritual transformation.

Philippians 2:9
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

It’s like using the name of the president of a company – that name can get things done. It’s the same in the spirit realm, except that the Name of Jesus is higher – carries more weight -- than any other name

Father's Love Letter Meditation 12
For all your days are written in my book.

Psalm 139:16
16 Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them. (WEB)

Most biographies are written after a person has fully lived his life and made some significant contribution to society. But, inconceivable as it may sound, God wrote your biography before you were born.

What an all-knowing, all-powerful God! This same God who existed before time began and who knows all the events of the future is the loving Father who has personally invited you, His precious child, to live eternally with Him in His heavenly home.

PRAYER
Almighty God, You already know more about me than I’ll ever know about You. You have written out the perfect plan for my life. Enable me to be so in sync with Your Father-heart that my life will be a daily reflection of Your perfect will for me.
Amen.

Father's Love Letter
Meditation 11
You were not a mistake.

Psalm 139:15
15 My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. (WEB)

Through His Word, Father God has purposely communicated to you that your life is not a mistake. He lovingly watched as your yet-unformed body was woven together, and He took the time to carefully write down each one of your future days in His book. You are not just a population statistic in His eyes. You are a person who is incredibly unique, with a special purpose. You were not an accident, for you are loved more than you could ever know.

PRAYER
Father, thank You that I have a special purpose in life and that all my days are written in Your book. Help me to always remember that You wanted me to come into this world and that You have planned each day that I live. Please grant to me a daily supply of strength and courage to sustain me. Amen.

I have been posting meditations from the Father's Love Letter on Fcf fb page.
The reason being at church about 3 weeks ago, we were all given a copy of it. We were asked to meditate on it and then after give it away to someone else.
I was just looking at the first paragraph this morning and the line 'I am familiar with all your ways' which is Psalm 139 v 3 in the Bible, got me thinking 🤔
I got to wondering about my ways.
I asked my husband what he finds irritating about me and he said that I don't tighten the lids up on jars such as the coffee one!
I asked him what he finds good about me. He said 'a good organiser and stands up against injustice'
I thanked God for being patient and kind with me for all my annoying ways which I am probably slow to improve in. I thanked him for not giving up on me.
Psalm 145 v 8
The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

I then thought that maybe sometimes I may make God smile at my silly ways or the time I do occasionally do things right. Do things God's way and not my way.
Psalm 149 v 4
For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.
Psalm 17 v 8
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
Zephaniah 3:17
The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
In the Father's Love Letter, God is telling us that of we believe in his son, then we are His children.
As his children we sometimes get it wrong. We sometimes get it right but God still loves us ❤️

Here is a link to the Father's Love Letter so you can listen in if you have never heard of it before.

The Father's Love Letter
Meditation 10
I chose you when I planned creation.

Ephesians 1:11-12
11 We were also assigned an inheritance in him, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who does all things after the counsel of his will, 12 to the end that we should be to the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Christ. (WEB)

No one likes to be rejected. Perhaps you experienced rejection by your classmates or by your parents when you were a child. Even as adults, rejection can happen anytime and anywhere—in the workplace, at home or even in church. But God chose you to be His son or daughter from the very beginning of time. In the Father’s eyes you are a precious treasure. He loves you and has a one-of-a-kind plan for your life.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for choosing me to be part of Your forever family. I thank You that I am accepted unconditionally by the One who matters most. I desire to be Your child, to obey You in all things and to be a coheir with Jesus according to Your wonderful plan. Help me to fulfill the special purpose that was determined especially for me. Amen.

Father's Love Letter
Meditation 9
I knew you even before you were conceived.

Jeremiah 1:4-5
4 Now Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (WEB)

When Jeremiah was called to be a prophet to Israel, God told him that even before he had been conceived in his mother’s womb, he was known by God and set apart for His divine purposes. Knowing this surely gave Jeremiah the strength to live out his destiny, even in the darkest of times. And the same is true for you. When everything else around you does not make sense, this bedrock truth can give you the assurance to keep going. What a wonderful thought—the God of the universe knows you intimately and set you apart for His purposes even before you were conceived!

PRAYER
Father, it is truly humbling to know that Your amazing love for me existed even before I entered this world. You knew me and set me apart for Your special purpose long before I was born. Help me to receive a deeper revelation of this truth so that I might continue to live out my destiny in the shadow of Your love.
Amen.

Today our speaker at Frome Christian Fellowship was Stephen Beale. He was talking about the 'Son of Man'.
In the bible Jesus is called the 'Son of God' and the 'Son of Man'
Jesus referred to himself as the "Son of Man" exactly 81 to 88 times in the New Testament, depending on the Bible translation and specific verse counting. It was his favorite and most frequent self-designation, appearing exclusively on his lips in the Gospels.
I found it very helpful that Stephen spoke on this as I had never reflected on what the expression 'Son of Man' actually means so the talk was very informative.

I have an article by John Piper which is very similar to what Stephen shared so I will post it here and hope it will be a blessing to you.

Why is Jesus called "Son of Man"?

Let me give a common understanding and then a more sophisticated historical understanding.

The common understanding is that "Son of God" implies his deity—which it does—and that "Son of Man" implies his humanity, which it does too.

He was a son of man, that is, a human being. And he is the Son of God, in that he has always existed as the Eternally Begotten One who comes forth from the Father forever. He always has, and he always will. He is the Second Person of the Trinity with all of the divine nature fully in him.

He is born of a virgin. He had a human father but he didn't have s*x with this virgin until Jesus was born. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the virgin Mary. Thus he is human—fully human. The Bible wants to emphasize that he is fully human.

So that's the common understanding: he is both divine and he is human—two natures, one person.

The more sophisticated and important historical insight is that the term "Son of Man" doesn't merely align him with humanity. It is probably taken from Daniel 7. And if you read that chapter you'll see that the Son of Man is a very exalted figure: not just a human figure but an exalted figure. It was Jesus' favorite self-designation.

Daniel 7:13-14
13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

If you do a study of the term "Son of Man" in the Gospels you'll see that he didn't refer to himself most often as Son of God but as Son of Man. He said things like, in Mark 10:45, "The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many." So he calls himself Son of Man very often.

I think the reason he did so is because, on the face of it, Son of Man is an ordinary phrase for "human being." He was born of a man. And there's no offense there: who isn't a son of man? But those with ears to hear could hear Daniel 7, in which he was claiming a very exalted role in the history of redemption. And he meant to do it.

Jesus was very subtle in that he was always opening his identity to those with eyes to see, but he wasn't opening it so blatantly that everybody would come and make him king. He had to steer a very narrow course in disclosing his identity, not just openly saying, "I'm the Messiah, I'm the King of the World. Come and acknowledge me as King." He didn't talk like that.

He was quiet. He was subtle. And he would make claims that were explicit in certain settings and implicit in others. And only when the time was right—mainly when he was on trial for his life,
and they said, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the living God?"—did he say, "I am, and you will see the Son of Man coming with great power and glory." So he confessed his open deity right at the point where he knew he would be crucified for it.

So I hope that helps. "Son of Man" has the double meaning of human being and, according to Daniel 7, exalted heavenly one. And Jesus means to communicate both of those.

Father's Love Letter
Meditation 8
For you are my offspring.

Acts 17:28
As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ (WEB)

Every person ever conceived came from God and was fashioned in His image. He is your Father; you are His offspring. He is the One who fathered you into life. This is true whether a person chooses to be identified as His child or not, for God’s very essence is that of a loving Father.

But God will never force His way into your life. You must make that conscious decision to
accept Him as your Father. When you do, He will reach down, take your hand in His and never let it go. Father God loves you, His child, with an everlasting love.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I gratefully acknowledge that You are my Father and I am Your child. How thankful I am that by choosing to receive Your love I will not pass into eternity without You. Help me feel Your pain for all the spiritually lost children who haven’t yet found their way home to Your loving arms. Give me Your same compassion toward Your wayward offspring. Amen.
