Thought for the Week:

Following on from our 'Reflection and Prayer for the Week' I wonder how often you stop and stare?

Just looking at what is around you. The beauty of the place we live; the movement of the seasons; the love we share with others.

Confucius once said: “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”

And it reminds us today that awareness enhances appreciation. Today, take some time to pause and notice the beauty in our surroundings; which, if we;re honest, so often goes unnoticed. For, by being more aware, we can enrich our lives significantly. Let’s open our eyes to the beauty around us!

Reflection and Prayer for the Week:

Reading:
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1

Reflection:
The sunrise and sunset, the changing of the leaves as we move into Autumn, all of this, if you stop to think about it, is God’s artwork on display for you to enjoy.

Creation isn’t just background scenery for your life – it’s God’s love letter written in colors, textures, sounds, and beauty that He designed specifically to bring you joy and remind you of His incredible creativity.

When you take time to really notice the world around you, you’re not just enjoying nature – you’re connecting with the heart of the Artist who made it all for His pleasure and yours.

Further Reflection:
When was the last time you stopped to really notice and appreciate something in nature – a sunset, a flower, the sound of rain, or the night sky? How did that moment affect your mood or perspective?

If you viewed the natural world around you as God’s personal gift to you today, how would that change the way you interact with creation and care for the environment?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for painting the world with such incredible beauty and creativity. Help me to slow down and really notice the amazing details You’ve placed all around me – from the grandest mountain views to the tiniest flowers.

When I see Your creation, remind me of Your love for beauty, Your attention to detail, and Your desire to bring joy into my life through the world You’ve made.
Give me a heart that cares for and protects the beautiful gifts You’ve entrusted to us.
In Jesus Name, Amen

Thought for the Week:

Today we live within a world and a culture that prizes success and rebuffs failure. We're encouraged to forget the latter and strive for the former. "Be successful" "Be your best self" are the cries we often here; we might even say them to ourselves.

But all of this is measured, by others, and by ourselves, by what we can then see; we believe a successful life must produce material reward. Now to some extent this might be true. But R.W. Emerson once said: "What lies ahead of us and what lies behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

And in doing so he reminds us that it is our inner qualities; kindness, compassion, integrity and so on; it is these things that make us great. For it is as we develop our inner qualities that not only do we become more comfortable in our own skin, but we also have a greater impact, for good, upon those around us.

Today, we are encouraged to look more to that which lies within, and to cultivate those qualities that not only shape us but shape those around us. So, today why not seek to harness your inner power!

Reflection and Prayer for the Week:

Reading:
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Reflection:
David, the author of this Psalm, wrote it to celebrate God’s deliverance after a time of intense struggle. The people of Israel were dancing, singing, and celebrating because God had rescued them once again.
Back then, each new day brought fresh challenges, enemies, and uncertainty, but David understood something that still speaks to us today: every single day is a gift from God, not because it’s easy or predictable, but because it’s held in His hands.

And for us today, every morning when we wake up, we get a brand-new chance to experience God’s goodness and love. Today is a pure gift – you didn’t earn it, and you can’t guarantee tomorrow.

Sometimes we get so caught up in our to-do lists and worries that we forget to pause and recognize that behind every sunrise is a God who loves you deeply. What would change if you really believed that today, with all its ordinary moments and messy realities, is God’s special gift to you?

Just think, if we truly believed that God had handpicked this specific day just for you, what would you do differently? How would you treat the people you’ll encounter and the tasks you’ll face?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for the incredible gift of this brand-new day. Help me to see it through your eyes – not as just another 24 hours to get through, but as a precious present from your loving hands. When I’m tempted to rush through or complain about today, remind me to pause and say “thank you.” Fill my heart with the same joy David felt, and help me share that joy with everyone I meet.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Tomorrow we're looking forward to celebrating our Harvest Sunday - a time when we pause to remember again - all that God has given is meant to be shared.

Our offering for the day will go to support the work of the Community Larder.
