HAPPY SAGA DAWA DUECHEN 2026

In the Tibetan Buddhist lunar calendar, Saga Dawa (ས་ག་ཟླ་བ།) is the fourth lunar month. In 2026, Saga Dawa Duechen, the full moon day and the 15th day of this sacred month, falls on May 31.

Saga Dawa Duechen commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvāṇa of Buddha Śākyamuni. For Tibetan Buddhists, it is regarded as the holiest and most important day of the year.

The word „Duechen“ means “great occasion” or “great event.” Saga Dawa Duechen is one of the four great Buddhist festivals in the Tibetan calendar.

During this month, it is said that the merit of wholesome actions is multiplied hundreds of thousands of times. For this reason, Saga Dawa is a special time for practice, prayers and mantra recitation, offerings, generosity, saving lives, prostrations, circumambulating sacred places, and dedicating the merit for the benefit of all beings.

In Tibetan, „dawa“ means “month,” while „Saga“ refers to one of the 28 principal stars used in Tibetan astrological calculations.

On Saga Dawa Duechen, it is not only the outer action that matters, but above all the motivation: every wholesome action is dedicated to the welfare of all beings.

May all beings possess happiness and the causes of happiness.
May they be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.
May they never be separated from true happiness, which is without suffering.
May they dwell in great equanimity, free from attachment to friends and aversion to enemies.

HAPPY SAGA DAWA DÜCHEN 2026

Im tibetisch-buddhistischen Mondkalender ist Saga Dawa (ས་ག་ཟླ་བ།) der vierte Mondmonat. Im Jahr 2026 fällt Saga Dawa Düchen, der Vollmondtag und 15. Tag dieses heiligen Monats, auf den 31. Mai.

Saga Dawa Düchen erinnert an die Geburt, die Erleuchtung und das Eingehen ins Parinirvāṇa von Buddha Śākyamuni. Für tibetische Buddhistinnen und Buddhisten gilt dieser Tag als der heiligste und wichtigste Tag des Jahres.

Das Wort "Düchen*"bedeutet „großer Anlass“ oder „großes Ereignis“. Saga Dawa Düchen gehört zu den vier großen buddhistischen Festtagen im tibetischen Kalender.

Während dieses Monats wird gesagt, dass sich das Verdienst heilsamer Handlungen hunderttausendfach vervielfacht. Deshalb ist Saga Dawa eine besondere Zeit für Praxis, Gebete und Mantra-Rezitation, Opfergaben, Großzügigkeit, das Retten von Leben, Niederwerfungen, das Umrunden heiliger Orte und die Widmung des Verdienstes zum Wohl aller Wesen.

Auf Tibetisch bedeutet "dawa" „Monat“, während "Saga" einen der 28 Hauptsterne bezeichnet, die in tibetischen astrologischen Berechnungen verwendet werden.

An Saga Dawa Düchen ist nicht nur die äußere Handlung wichtig, sondern vor allem die Motivation: Jede heilsame Handlung wird dem Wohl aller Wesen gewidmet.

Mögen alle Wesen Glück und die Ursachen des Glücks besitzen.
Mögen sie frei sein von Leid und den Ursachen des Leidens.
Mögen sie niemals vom wahren Glück getrennt sein, das frei von Leiden ist.
Mögen sie in großem Gleichmut verweilen, frei von Anhaftung an Freunde und Abneigung gegen Feinde.

Sehr gerne teilen wir mit euch einige Eindrücke unseres 5-tägigen Meditationsretreats zur Geistigen Ruhe.
In diesem Retreat für stille Sitzmeditation präsentiert Lama Sönam eine Auswahl von Anweisungen aus dem Mahamudra-Praxisbuch „Wie man die Dunkelheit der Unwissenheit vertreibt“ des 9. Karmapa Wangchuk Dorje. Die Unterweisungen umfassen Meditationshaltung, schrittweise Shamatha-Praxis sowie den Übergang zur Einsichtsmeditation (Vipashyana). Wir freuen uns sehr auf die noch kommenden Tage mit Lama Sönam.
