International Baptist Church (IBC) Giessen is an English-speaking Baptist Church in Giessen, Germany. We'll get back to you.

We are an evangelical Baptist church that ministers especially to English speakers in Gießen, Germany. It is our goal to help people to learn more about Jesus and assist them in developing a personal relationship with him. We minister in a city with a relatively high percentage of international students, resident foreigners and refugees. Most of our attendants are made up of this group, many are e

ither German or foreign college students. What connects us is a common desire to get to know God and worship him. Mid-Week Bible Study will have its second session on Hebrews this Wednesday at 7pm. It’s not a problem if you weren’t there last week, you don’t need any prior knowledge to be part of the study – all you need is a Bible and link to the Zoom meeting.

Food Glorious Food…
We’re just a couple of Sundays away from our ‘All Nations Sunday’ on Sunday 20th September. Our congregation is made up of Brothers and Sisters from a wide variety of nations - and we would like to celebrate that! If you have traditional or national dress, you are always invited to wear it and show it off, but particularly on the 20th. What would a celebration be without food? A poor one, we’re sure we can agree on that no matter where you come from! So, after the service we will have an international lunch and share dishes from our homeland or culture with one another. Make sure your country is represented and bring something that really says ‘home’ to you!

More-or-less a month later we will be holding our traditional autumn Pot-Luck. There will eventually be sign-up lists for that, but those who like to plan such things in advance might like to already make a note of the 25th October.

For the next three weeks, the responsibility for these weekly updates is being given to someone else, as the team that usually organise them are taking a break. While our Facebook and website pages will go quiet in this time, someone else will be writing an update and sending it out to our e-mail list. If you would like to receive these updates as an e-mail, please write to [email protected]. Normal operations will resume on 5th October.

At IBC Giessen we generally celebrate the Lord’s Table on the first Sunday of the month. We are not following any rigid rules in our choice of Sunday, nor are we particularly strict in keeping that specific pattern – as was the case during yesterday’s service. All Nations Sunday…
On Sunday 20th September we would like to focus on the “International” part of our church. We invite you to come to Church wearing traditional clothing or something that represents your home country – maybe you could bring your country’s flag if you have one. After the service, we would like to share an international lunch filled with cuisine from your homeland. There will be a sign-up sheet at Church in the coming weeks.

Coming Up in September…
As August slowly draws to a close, a quick reminder that Mid-Week Bible Study will start again next month with a new topic, the Book of Hebrews.

On Sunday 20th September we want to celebrate the many nations and cultures represented in our Church family. Feel free to wear traditional clothing or something that represents your home country. After the service, we will share an international lunch together and everyone is invited to bring a dish from their country or culture. Mark the date in your calendar now, and in the coming weeks we will share a sign-up list where you can let us know what you would like to bring.

Dear Church family and friends,

When we think of ‘unity’ or being in ‘a union’ we often take its definition to the extreme. Rather than diminishing the individual, it should concentrate on one similarity or fundament. A Church, for example, is a union of Christ followers regardless of their cultural or denominational background. Church unity is not that we are all the same personality or personal preference, rather that we all have the same foundation. You might have heard the turn of phrase ‘happiness isn’t a destination, but a journey’. While it may sound clichéd, it is something that even believers have to keep in mind. Our salvation is indeed a fixed point, but our sanctification and life as a follower of Christ is an on-going process. Dear Church family and friends,

Sometimes we find answers in other people’s prayers. This certainly seems to be the case in John 17, verses 6 through 12, when Jesus talks to His Father having just spoken at great length with his disciples. He prepares himself for what is to come. In this particular chapter he prays for the disciples and their protection as he parts from them. He knows why they are being left behind, which is what Pastor Buddy reflects upon in his sermon from Sunday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfISByGt0OA.

On first reading, Psalm 127 could be considered a Psalm of two halves – it talks about two different things, starting off as an existential crisis and then going into the blessing that children are. You might then be inclined to understand that children should answer the question of life’s “whys”.
