The New Testament word for "church" could easily be translated as “those gathered”. Church is a unique gathering where we are all united in our relationship with Jesus, but we also have diverse gifts and stories. The message this week will be a dialogue between our pastors about how the churches they have attended and how it shaped them. This will introduce our new series called Gathered.

We will also join together in Communion remembering Jesus who suffered and died for us so we could have access to God and be united together in one body.

This Sunday, we begin a three-part series called “Your Word is Truth”: Why I love Scripture. In John 17, as Jesus prays for his disciples, he says, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” (NLT) This series explores the impact scripture has in our lives by considering three major themes that are threaded through Psalm 119: Illumination, Insight, and Invitation. Scripture guides our steps, shapes our thoughts, and recalibrates our desires.

The Bible is filled with many unnamed characters. The message today is an attempt to tell a biblical story from the point of view of one of those unnoticed and unnamed characters. And while I have imagined many details, the theme stretches from Genesis to Revelation. The story comes from the stressful time when God's people were in exile. But God wasn't nervous or threatened. And that is a good lesson for today.

The book ends with a courtroom scene unlike any other, every nation on earth summoned to a valley whose name means "the Lord judges." Weapons are forged, the sky goes black, and it looks like the end of everything. But then comes a twist: the same God roaring in judgment turns and whispers refuge to His people. Why would the Judge become a shelter? Joel's answer reframes the whole book, the Day of the Lord was never just about wrath. It's about who gets to stand in it, and what's waiting for them on the other side: a flowing fountain, a restored land, and a God who finally moves in and stays for good.
