The Bible is filled with many unnamed characters. The message today is an attempt to tell a biblical story from the point of view of one of those unnoticed and unnamed characters. And while I have imagined many details, the theme stretches from Genesis to Revelation. The story comes from the stressful time when God's people were in exile. But God wasn't nervous or threatened. And that is a good lesson for today.

Have you ever bargained with God? Abraham did, and what he discovered sustained him as he wrestled with the uncertainties in his life. Today we consider the fascinating bargaining session of Genesis 18:16-33. How does it relate to the burning question of Abraham's life—and the burning question that people still wrestle with today?

In this message we explore key passages that help us keep up with the conversation God is having with us in the ever-changing stages of our lives. How does God speak to us? How does that impact our perspective on life and our words to others? This Sunday we will also remember the presence of Jesus with us as we participate together in Communion.

The book ends with a courtroom scene unlike any other, every nation on earth summoned to a valley whose name means "the Lord judges." Weapons are forged, the sky goes black, and it looks like the end of everything. But then comes a twist: the same God roaring in judgment turns and whispers refuge to His people. Why would the Judge become a shelter? Joel's answer reframes the whole book, the Day of the Lord was never just about wrath. It's about who gets to stand in it, and what's waiting for them on the other side: a flowing fountain, a restored land, and a God who finally moves in and stays for good.

Joel pictures an even more terrifying army on the horizon, a "day of darkness and gloom" that makes chapter one's locusts look small. But right at the center of that warning, God does something unexpected: He pleads with His people to return to Him with all their heart, not just outward ritual, promising that He is "gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love." Chapter two answers the cry that ended chapter one: the God being cried out to is already moving toward rescue.

Through a devastating locust plague and the promise of a coming "Day of the Lord," Joel invites us to repent, return to God with sincere hearts, and place our hope in His faithfulness. This three-part series will journey through one chapter each week, exploring God's call to repentance, His promise of restoration, and the hope of His ultimate victory. As we study Joel together, we will discover that the Day of the Lord is not merely a future event to fear but an invitation to draw near to the God who judges justly, restores graciously, and reigns forever.

The biggest wrong, according to our culture, is telling someone that they are wrong. What does Jesus mean when he says, "Judge not, lest you be judged"? Today we consider this familiar saying of Jesus, and how it applies to our conversations and attitudes.

Psalm 73 invites us into the journey of a worship leader who discovered that faith is not the absence of questions but knowing where to take them. Asaph was a Levite who had it all, appointed by David to lead God's people in worship when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem. So why do we find him writing one of the most honest psalms of doubt and struggle? If he was so close to God, why was he wrestling with envy, confusion, and questions about God's justice? And if Asaph had it all figured out, why are his psalms found in what many call the darkest volume of the Psalms?
