Another special Sunday at Faith Church- May and June are so rich with special celebrations in our community! On June 7th we celebrated the baptism of our little sister, L, and the installation of two new Deacons to our leadership team.
L's parents chose our "Song for the Journey" in honour of the special day; Goodness of God written by Jenn Johnson and recorded by CeCe Winans, as well as Bethel Music and several others. L's parents shared why they chose that song to commemorate her baptism, and Pastor Cara used it as a way of illuminating the Parable of the Prodigal Son to show us how God is so, so good.
In the familiar story, the son who has squandered his inheritance and insulted his father comes crawling back when he hits rock bottom. But the father hikes up his robes to race towards his son, embracing him and welcoming him back with open arms. In the same way, our God runs after us, not waiting for us to crawl back to him, but running to us with forgiveness, mercy and love. God proves himself to be a God whose "goodness is running after, it's running after" all of us; this is the story of Christmas when God chose to be close to us in human form. It's the story of Easter, when Jesus went to incredible lengths to reconcile us to God. It is the story of Pentecost, when God gave us his Spirit to remind us of his closeness, faithfulness and power.
When we run towards God with love, obedience, trust, diligence, eagerness and surrender, God honours that and empowers us to do things like.... become leaders in our community! And on that note, Pastor Cara installed two new office-bearers to our Deacon team. What a way to end a wonderful service ππ
