Loving God, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the tragedy at CFB Wainwright. We pray for the first responders who made a difference yet will carry the memory of tragedy. We pray for the surviving soldiers that they may recover wholeness in mind, body and spirit. We pray for the chaplains who are on the ground and offering support in unimaginable situations. We pray for the families of those injured and who died - especially for their families dealing with the long path to recovery and wellness. Compassionate God, may they be strengthened during this difficult time, and may they know that they are not alone, for we are praying for them.

As they have offered themselves in this particular service bless them in all their ways.

Amen.

Today, the day after the National Truth and Reconciliation Day, our work at reconciliation begins. Consider the message from the Grand Council Chief, Linda Debassige, as our roadmap for working beside First Nations to heal the wounds of systemic and individual harm.

Join us in prayer for the Jewish community in Belleville and across Canada following the shooting at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue during Yom Kippur services on Sunday evening.

We pray for those who gathered in worship, for the police officer and others who were injured, and for their families and loved ones. We pray for all who are shaken and afraid, and for the Jewish community as it marks these sacred days.

As people of faith, we pray for an end to antisemitism and all forms of hatred and violence. May God’s Spirit strengthen those who are hurting, guide us toward justice and reconciliation, and inspire us to build communities where every person can worship, gather, and live in safety and peace.

May the peace of God be with all who are grieving and afraid.

United Church of Canada Moderator, the Right Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath.
