“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. [John 15:1-6] NIV The process of pruning itself is a painful process. How do you prune? Do you just remove the leaves and leave the branch untouched? No! The tree is but an illustration. For as long as you are alive- there will be a cutting; processing. Both the one who is fruitful and the one who is unfruitful must go through the process.

It is unfortunate how people desire success but they do not want to sacrifice- tame themselves to achieve it. In order for you to become successful at anything in life, (is it, marriage, career, business, academics?) you must be a prisoner of that very thing. Paul said, “I am a prisoner of Christ.” [Ephesians 3:1] Those who are married become prisoners of that marriage in order to be successful. Even the wealthiest businessman becomes a prisoner of the business in order to become successful.

You become the best version of yourself when you embrace discipline- “whoever loves discipline loves knowledge.” [Proverbs 12:1] There is no love that does not express itself in discipline! I know that you are a Christian by the manner in which you respond to correction. “Let a righteous man strike me- that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, For my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.” [Psalm 141: 5]. Brethren, when you become comfortable, life cuts you off because God hates comfort.

In today’s service, the servant of God led the church into an introspective message centred on purpose and the intention of the heart. He emphasised that there is a difference between what people do and the reason why they do it. People may see our actions, but God sees the intention behind them. We can pray, serve, give, honour and fast, but the question remains: What is the intention of the heart? Two people can do the same thing outwardly, yet have completely different motives before God.

Child of God develop a heart on purpose. Honour and loyalty must come from the heart and should not be transactional or based on what one expects to receive. True commitment remains even when there is no applause or immediate reward. The Man of God further explained that prayer is not simply about speaking many words, but about developing deeper thoughts of God, His Word and His ways. Silence and isolation can reveal what is truly occupying the heart.

The message also emphasised determination and purpose through the woman with the issue of blood. Despite suffering for twelve years, she pressed through the crowd with a determined heart, saying, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” — Matthew 9:21. Her touch was not ordinary; it was a touch of faith, determination and purpose. In the same way, child of God, learn to approach God with determination and a heart that knows what it is seeking.

The Man of God reminded the church that spiritual maturity is not measured by age or how long one has been in church, but by the condition of the heart and how one responds to situations. Wisdom, self-control, love and restraint are also part of spiritual maturity. When bringing people to Christ, the church must learn to deal with them through wisdom and love rather than accusations.

Ultimately, the message brought the church back to the importance of purpose and the intention of the heart. Before seeking recognition, more blessings or a change in circumstances, allow God to search and purify the heart. The goal is to pray because we desire God, serve because we love Him, honour because we understand honour, and remain committed because our hearts genuinely belong to Him.
