At least 675 bodies have so far been recovered since the tsunami-like rumble of water and mud struck villages and towns on Wednesday morning. Chitwan, a district in the south that borders India, recovered the most number of bodies at 233.

DNA Samples Collected From Bodies
The officials have been collecting DNA samples from the bodies before burying them.

They are also maintaining records using identification or reference numbers to facilitate possible identification in the future.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV
Each body has a unique identification number with its location tag so that relatives can exhume them once DNA matches.

By Saturday afternoon, DNA profiling for over 100 bodies had been completed, and they were ready for burial.

1.5-Metre Deep Burial Pits
The burial pits are being dug to a depth of 1.5 metres to ensure the bodies can be easily exhumed later. A 40-centimetre gap has been maintained between them to ensure that only the specific body identified via DNA matching can be retrieved.

Plans are also in place to document the burial process through video and photography and to geo-tag the burial site.

People looking for their missing relatives will be required to provide DNA samples at various hospitals across the country. Once the DNA test results are available, Nepal's health department will match them with the DNA from the bodies to identify the specific body number. Based on that number, the police will consult the records to determine the exact location where the body was buried.

The bodies will then be exhumed and handed over to them.

The police have also uploaded details of unidentified and unclaimed bodies on a website.

Nepal To India, Narayani To Gandak Rivers: In Nepal, it is Narayani, and by the time it reaches India, the river is called Gandak. It is the same river that flows from Nepal into India.

The Narayani river originates near the Tibet-Nepal border and enters Nepal from the Mustang region. Crossing the Indo-Nepal border at Triveni Dham, the river reaches Valmikinagar in Bihar.

"From Valmikinagar, Gandak winds its way through the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar before merging into the Ganga at Hajipur and Sonepur.

2026 Sawan Somwar Days -Sawan Somwar Vrat [2082 - 2083] Vikrama Samvata

In Hindu calendar Shravan month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Whole month is considered auspicious to seek blessing of Lord Shiva. Devotees keep various fasts during Shravan month to please Lord Shiva.

Shravan month is also known as Sawan month in North Indian states. All Mondays or Somwar(s) which fall during Shravan month are considered highly auspicious for fasting and known as Shravan Somwar or Sawan Somwar Vrats. Many devotees observe sixteen Mondays or Solah Somwar fasting from first Somwar of Sawan month.

All Tuesdays or Mangalwar in Shravan month are dedicated to Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. Tuesday's fasting during Shravan month is known as Mangal Gauri Vrat. Sawan Shivaratri and Hariyali Amavasya are other auspicious days during Shravan month.

There is fifteen days difference in starting time of Shravan month depending on the followed lunar calendar in the region. In Purnimanta calendar, usually followed by North Indian states, Shravan month starts fifteen days before Amanta calendar.

In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Amanta Lunar Calendar is followed while in North Indian states Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand Purnimanta Calendar is followed. Hence half of the Sawan Somwar dates differ in both calendars.

In Nepal, and some parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, Sawan Somwar is observed as per Solar Calendar. Hence, Sawan Somwar dates in these regions might differ from Amanta as well as Purnimanta calendar.
