Faithfulness, Love and Legacy

⛰️ Deuteronomy 34:1–12 – The End of Moses’ Journey

Moses stands on Mount Nebo and sees the Promised Land, though he will not enter it. His life ends with the work unfinished, yet his faithfulness has shaped a whole people.

This is a moving reminder that we do not always see the full result of what God asks us to do. Sometimes our calling is to prepare the way for others.

What kind of legacy are we leaving behind?

🎵 Psalm 90:1–6, 13–17 – Teach Us to Number Our Days

This ancient prayer reflects on the shortness of human life and the enduring presence of God.

Our lives pass quickly, but the psalmist asks God to give meaning and purpose to the work of our hands.

How might we live differently if we remembered that our time is precious?

❤️ 1 Thessalonians 2:1–8 – Sharing More Than Words

Paul reminds the Thessalonians that his ministry among them was not about popularity, power or personal gain. He cared for them deeply, sharing not only the Gospel but his own life as well.

Christian witness is most powerful when people encounter not just our words, but genuine love, humility and care.

Do people experience the love of Christ through the way we treat them?

✝️ Matthew 22:34–46 – What Matters Most?

When Jesus is asked to name the greatest commandment, his answer is clear: love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbour as yourself.

Everything else flows from these two commands.

Faith can become complicated, but Jesus brings us back to its centre: love God—and let that love shape the way you love others.

What would change this week if love became the measure of every decision we made?

Moses shows us a life of faithfulness.
Paul shows us a ministry of genuine care.
Jesus shows us the heart of faith itself: love.

A faithful life is not measured only by what we achieve, but by how deeply we love God, serve others and prepare the way for those who come after us.

Sunday 25 October 2026 — A life shaped by love

Readings: Deuteronomy 34:1–12; Psalm 90:1–6, 13–17; 1 Thessalonians 2:1–13; Matthew 22:34–46. The extended Thessalonians reading reflects the Australian APBA provision.

Jesus gathers the heart of faith into two simple commands: love God, and love your neighbour.

The other readings show what that love can look like. Moses leaves behind a lifetime of faithful service. The psalm asks God to give lasting value to the work of our hands. Paul describes a love that shares not only words, but one’s own life.

Love is more than a feeling. It takes shape in the time we give, the patience we show, the burdens we help carry and the ordinary work we do with care.

Practical faith takeaway: Choose one person this week and show God’s love through one deliberate act—listen attentively, offer encouragement, lend a hand or make time to be present.

Sunday 11 October 2026 —
Responding wholeheartedly to God

Readings: Exodus 32:1–14; Psalm 106:1–6, 19–23 (20–24 in Australian Prayer Book numbering); Philippians 4:1–9; Matthew 22:1–14. Continuing the Exodus sequence, these follow the Revised Common Lectionary⁠, with Australian Anglican provision for the Philippians

What holds our attention—and our trust?

In the wilderness, God’s people turn to a golden calf when waiting becomes difficult. The psalm remembers their forgetfulness alongside God’s enduring mercy. Jesus’ story of a wedding feast reminds us that God’s generous invitation deserves a wholehearted response. Paul shows what that response can look like: gentleness, prayer, gratitude and putting goodness into practice.

God calls us back when we become distracted. We can bring our worries honestly into prayer and make room for the peace of Christ to shape how we live and treat one another.

This week, pause before one familiar distraction. Name a worry before God, give thanks for one blessing, and turn your attention towards someone who needs your kindness.
