Imagine what a church bus could make possible…

Imagine being picked up from your front door and coming along to church with ease.
Imagine being able to connect more regularly with your church family and not miss out because of transport.

Imagine our teens and children being transported safely to and from church, youth nights, camps and QB events.
Imagine travelling together for a day out of fellowship, laughter and encouragement.
Imagine being able to go out as a church to bless other churches and communities as well.

This bus is more than just a vehicle — it’s a tool for ministry, connection, outreach and care. It will help us serve people, build community and make it easier for many to belong, grow and be part of what God is doing through Sandstone Community Church.

A Worship Reflection.
2 Chronicles 24:24

David says:

“I will not offer to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”

David understood that true worship, sacrifice, and obedience to God are not meant to be cheap, convenient, or effortless. If the offering cost him nothing, then it was not really his sacrifice.

Araunah was willing to give David the threshing floor, the oxen, and the wood for free, but David refused. Why? Because he knew that worship is not about giving God what costs us nothing—it is about bringing something of value, honour, surrender, and obedience.

1. Worship should cost us something

For David, the issue was not money alone. It was heart.

A sacrifice that costs us nothing may involve:

* no surrender
* no inconvenience
* no humility
* no repentance
* no faith
* no obedience

But biblical worship often costs us:

* time
* comfort
* pride
* reputation
* resources
* our own will

Application:

* Praise when life is hard costs something.
* Giving generously costs something.
* Forgiving someone who hurt you costs something.
* Serving when you’re tired costs something.
* Repenting and laying down sin costs something.
* Staying faithful when no one applauds costs something.

And that is often where worship becomes most precious to God.

2. David would not let someone else pay the price for his offering

Araunah offered the whole thing freely, but David would not present to God something that was provided by another person at no cost to himself.

That speaks powerfully to us:
We cannot live on someone else’s walk with God.

* We cannot offer someone else’s prayer life
* someone else’s hunger
* someone else’s devotion
* someone else’s holiness
* someone else’s sacrifice

There are no “second-hand sacrifices” in the kingdom.

Each of us must come before God ourselves.

3. True worship is not about the cheapest option

David could have taken the easy route. He could have said:
“Wonderful—God has provided it for free.”

But David recognised that worship is not about finding the least costly path. It is about giving God what is worthy of Him.

This challenges the modern mindset that asks:

* “What is the minimum I have to do?”
* “How little can I give and still call it worship?”
* “What can I keep for myself while still appearing spiritual?”

David’s attitude was the opposite:
“What is worthy of the Lord?”

4. Costly worship is connected to repentance and surrender

The context matters. This event happens after David’s sin in numbering Israel and the resulting judgment. David is not casually making an offering; he is coming before God in humility, repentance, and intercession.

So this is not just about generosity. It is also about a heart that understands the seriousness of sin and the holiness of God.

David was saying, in effect:

“I will not treat this lightly. I will not come casually. I will not respond to God’s mercy with something cheap.”

On this Sunday as we worship may we have the same heart.
