Fr. Damian’s Annual Retreat
21-26 September 2026

Please keep Fr. Damian and the members of the Australian Province of the Pauline Fathers in your prayers as they gather for their annual retreat at Marian Valley Shrine. This retreat is a valuable time of prayer, reflection, and renewal, allowing the Fathers to deepen their relationship with God, strengthen their fraternal bonds, and reflect on their mission and ministry in Australia. Surrounded by the prayers of pilgrims and the beauty of Marian Valley, may this time bring them renewed faith, wisdom, and zeal for service. Please pray for Fr. Damian and his community during this special time of grace and renewal.

September Reflections: The Cross and the Mother Who Stood Beside It

Each year, the Church invites us into a profound two-day journey of faith: September 14 – The Exaltation of the Holy Cross and September 15 – The Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows.

On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross we lift high the very sign of our salvation. The Cross, once an instrument of shame, has become the throne of Christ’s victory over sin and death. It reminds us that God’s greatest act of love was revealed through sacrifice and that our own trials, united with His, can be transformed into life-giving grace.

The very next day, we turn our gaze to Our Lady of Sorrows, who stood faithfully at the foot of that Cross. Mary’s heart was pierced with grief, yet she never turned away. Her steadfast presence teaches us how to love in the midst of suffering, to trust when the path is dark, and to remain close to Christ no matter the cost.

Together, these feasts invite us to see the Cross not only as a symbol of redemption but also as a place of deep companionship — where the Savior’s love meets the Mother’s compassion. In our own lives, may we learn to embrace both: the courage to carry the Cross and the tenderness to stand beside those who bear it.

"We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You, because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world."

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time | Safeguarding Sunday

📅 Saturday, 12 September – 6:00pm Vigil Mass
📅 Sunday, 13 September – 8:30am Mass

This weekend, the Catholic Church in Australia observes Safeguarding Sunday, a time when we renew our commitment to ensuring that our parishes, ministries, and communities are places of safety, dignity, and respect for all.

The theme for this year’s Safeguarding Sunday is “Love Protects”, inspired by the words of St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13. Authentic Christian love is never passive. It is patient and kind, but it is also courageous and protective. Love listens to those who are hurting, stands with the vulnerable, and works to create environments where every person can flourish without fear.

As members of the Body of Christ, we are called to build a culture where children, young people, and adults at risk are valued, respected, and safeguarded. This responsibility belongs to all of us. Through awareness, vigilance, compassion, and accountability, we help ensure that our parish remains a place where people encounter the love and care of Christ.

The Scriptures this Sunday remind us of God’s mercy, compassion, and readiness to forgive. At the same time, we recognise that forgiveness must never be used to excuse abuse, silence those who have suffered harm, or avoid truth, justice, and accountability. True healing begins when people are heard, supported, and protected.
Let us pray for all survivors of abuse, for their families and loved ones, and for all who work to promote safeguarding within the Church and the wider community. May we continue to reflect Christ’s love by creating safe and welcoming communities for everyone.

❤️ Love protects.
❤️ Love tells the truth.
❤️ Love creates safety.

All are welcome to join us for Mass this weekend as we pray together and renew our commitment to safeguarding within our parish community.
