Freedom comes from God…
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” - John 8:36 NKJV
Todays devotion is a follow on from yesterday’s so if you missed that one, go back and read it again, because that lesson is foundational to today’s.
God is the highest authority in the entire universe. Philippians 2:10-11 tells us “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (NKJV). If every knee must bow to Him, then He is the highest authority of all.
Revelation 19:11-16 calls Him the “King of kings and the Lord of lords”. It also calls Him both Faithful and True, and since it’s impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18) we can take Him at His Word.
There is no one greater than our Father, and since freedom come from Him alone; when He declares you as free, then know that you are definitely free. Satan can whisper anything he likes in your ear. Just ignore him. He holds no authority because he’s nothing more than a liar (John 8:44). He may try to remind you of your past. He can even use people to tell you that you aren’t good enough but since he also has to bow his knee to the Lordship of Jesus, his word isn’t final. You don’t need to pay any attention to him.
Just respond to the Truth of God’s Word. You are free indeed!

I am free…
“For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” - 2 Corinthians 3:17 NLT
I want to declare this over you today. “If you are a child of God, then you are free!”
You might feel pain and guilt from your past, but your past is in the past. When you made Jesus Lord of your life, you became a new creation and He set you free from your past. 2 Corinthians 5:17 confirms this saying, “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things (notice “all things”) have become new” (NKJV).
1 John 1:9 also tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (NKJV). To give you an idea of how ‘cleansed’ we become, Psalms 103:12 says, “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” (NLT) and that’s a never-ending line.
So when we repent, not only are we forgiven, our sins are separated from us. Now just in case you are wondering if God won’t forget them, Hebrews 8:12 says “I (God) will remember them no more”. You can rest assured in this for these verses are all found in God’s Word and He can’t lie. It’s not that He won’t - He can’t because it’s impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18).
So, if you have repented from your sins, if you have surrendered your life to the Lordship of Jesus, then the Holy Spirit lives inside you and because He is there, you are free indeed.

God’s Textbook for Life…
“Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honour you.” - Psalms 86:11 NLT
As I was reading this verse, I was seeing a picture of the Bible not just as a book, but as a textbook in front of me. When we go to school or university, we usually have to purchase textbooks for the subjects we study because the purpose of those textbooks is to help you learn. They become the reference point for your learning.
For us, the Bible is God’s Word. It is as though He is speaking directly to us. Even today, it is a relevant as the day it was written, so we need to see it as far more than just a book, it needs to be a text book, the reference point from where we live our lives.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” How amazing is that? God’s Word is alive and powerful, so that makes it the most incredible text book of all time.
If you want God to teach you His ways, then the Bible needs to be a part of your daily life. Read it, study it, pray through it. As you do, God will to indeed teach you His ways, because His living word will begin to shape your thinking and as you respond in obedience to His Word, you will live a life that honours God far more than you will ever know.

Jesus is Lord…
“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” - Philippians 2:8-11 NKJV
These verses tell us so much. Jesus, as God, chose to live His life here on earth, and become obedient to the point of death so that we might be free to reign with Him for eternity. Jesus could have decided He wasn’t going to die. He could he asked for a legion of angels to come and deliver Him and wipe out all His enemies. He could have, but He didn’t. He became obedient to the point of death, and it was because of His obedience, that God exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name. If you’ve never really meditated on that, you need to. Read it again. He has the name that is above EVERY name. If it has a name, He is Lord over it. Can you comprehend that? He is Lord over everything. Sickness, incurable diseases, poverty, torment, sleeplessness, and the list goes on and on. If it has a name, He is Lord over it.
So today, take time to declare the Lordship of Jesus over your life, your family, your job, your church, your community, your leaders, your nation and anything else you can think of that has a name.
He is the incontestable Lord of all!

God is doing a new thing…
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” - Isaiah 43:19 NLT
In this verse, we see two different pictures of God doing something far beyond what we would consider as normal. One is a pathway being formed in the wilderness, and the other is rivers suddenly appearing in the desert.
But as amazing as these both are, we also need to pay special attention to the first part of this verse. It says, “For I am about to do something new.” Something new means it has never been done before. If we look at creation all around us, we can see He is limitless in His creativity and His ability to do things, so something new and seemingly impossible is very simple for God. He doesn’t need to do old things to prove He is God, or so that we can approve what He is doing. Too often want to understand God’s plans before we align ourselves with Him, but He wants us to have faith in Him, and align ourselves with Him anyway.
Now look at the part that talks about paths in the wilderness and rivers in desert. Again, these are things that are not normal, so let’s never expect God to be limited to what has been done before, or to things that we can understand. We serve the God of the impossible; the God Who is more than enough. He is doing something new, so let’s allow Him to be the awesome, creative and unlimited God that His is. We only need to align with Him, for our God is indeed the God of awesome wonders!

Highly valued by God…
“What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” - Matthew 10:29-31 NLT
When I go shopping and see something I like, the first thing I do is look at the price. For me, the value of the item is linked to the price and that will determine whether I really want it or not. If it’s too expensive, or I don’t have money for it, I just keep walking. The value something has is directly linked to the cost it has for each one of us. Each of us value things very differently.
In today’s verse, we seen two sparrows, which although they cost very little, are still noticed and valued by God. Knowing this, have you ever considered the value God places on your life?
To answer that, let’s think of what we cost Him. When sin entered the world, there was no debate amongst the Godhead as to whether we were worth the price it would cost for our freedom. Jesus willingly gave His life in our place so that we could come back into right relationship with God. Romans 5:8 says, “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” which means He did this knowing we might never even love Him back.
Jesus loves you so much that He gave His life in exchange for yours. He took a chance on you knowing you still may reject Him. So today, stand and declare loudly that you are highly valued by God. Jesus gave everything for you. He predetermined your value.

“I declare that I am highly valued by God. I am not an optional extra. He predetermined my value when He gave His life for mine. Every detail of my life matters greatly to Him…”

My hope is in Him...
"For our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers." - 1 Timothy 4:10b NLT
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be permanently blind? Imagine not knowing how to read, being able to drive a car, or seeing colour, or enjoy watching your children playing. Imagine what it would be like to have to get around with a white cane or a seeing eye dog?
I can only imagine the benefit and support something like a seeing eye dog brings someone who is blind. The dogs don’t just keep them company, they become their eyes, they protect them from unseen dangers and so much more. There is a huge amount of trust placed in those dogs, and there needs to be as the person’s life is in the hands of the seeing eye dog.
Well, how different would our lives be if we placed our trust in Father God like that? How many bad decisions could we have avoided if we sought out Father’s advice first. Our Father doesn’t want us to pray only when things are going wrong and we are desperate. He wants to walk with us every single day. He wants us to lean on Him, to trust Him and seek His advice in all we do.
Imagine He made an appointment to meet with you tomorrow morning. What questions would you ask as He sits in the chair opposite you? Why not make a list and then tomorrow just ask Him. Let your trust be in Him daily. He will never lead you astray.

The armour is my priority…
“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” - Ephesians 6:11-12 NKJV
When soldiers go into battle, they always have their armour. It’s a priority. It’s their responsibility. No one has to remind them to grab a helmet or their weapon. For a soldier, it’s literally an extension of their body because without it they know they could die. So, knowing the importance of the armour in saving lives, let me ask you: “How often do you put on all the armour of God?”
It’s interesting to note that the purpose of our spiritual armour is to protect us from the ‘wiles’ of the devil. The Greek word for ‘wiles’ is actually ‘methodiah’ which is where we get the word ‘method’ from. The armour will protect us from his methods.
The devil seeks to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). This isn’t a game. His methods are unfair and he doesn’t follow any rules. He will use whoever and whatever means he can to fulfil his purposes; including using people we love. Don’t ever forget that.
Today, remember your battle is against the devil, not the people you love. Make sure you armour is fitted correctly. If you need to put it on, then put it on. If you need to adjust it, then adjust it. If you need to pray more, then pray. If you need to pick up the Word and read it some more, then do it. Be prepared. Put all your armour on, and keep it on. You’re going to need it.
