I will speak of Him…
“I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord.” - Psalms 118:17
What does it mean to live? For each of us that might be something different. For some it might mean living life to the full and being adventurous, whilst for others it might mean to just get through the day. You might be in a situation where you need a miracle for your life, or you might be someone who has good health and has everything you need. Regardless of upper story, you can declare, “Whilst I have breath in my lungs, I will tell others about my Incredible God,” because that is what the above verse is saying.
As we read Psalms118, King David is acknowledging he has pressures, but he is not complaining, he is actually stirring Himself. Sometimes we also need to stir ourselves. It’s easy to focus on things like stress, pressures, lack, family problems, work problems, health issues and so on. The list might be long, but we need respond like David and stand strong, declaring the works of the Lord.
Read through the whole of Psalms 118 out loud and verbally apply your name or struggles you are facing in those verses. It will begin to stir you, and stir your faith and it won’t be long before you are responding like King David with a faith filled declaration something like the following:

Generous love…
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8 NKJV
When I think back to what Jesus did for me on the cross at Calvary, I never cease to be amazed by the extent of the love and consideration He had for me. When it comes to my sins and sicknesses, He paid for everything in advance when He became my sacrifice on the cross, and what amazes me even more is that He did it knowing that I may never even acknowledge Him. Now that’s generous love! In fact, Revelation 13:8 refers to Him as the Lamb who was slaughtered before the world was made (NLT). Not only was everything paid for on the cross before we even acknowledged Him, His entire plan for salvation was determined before the world was ever created.
This is important because we need to understand that our sin is never a shock to God. The devil didn’t suddenly make a move with Adam and Eve leaving God scratching His head wondering what happened. God knew man would sin. God knew you and I would let Him down; God knew we would fail, but in His generous love, He created a plan for salvation that took into account everything we would ever do. It was limited by nothing!
Consider God’s generous love today. Can I encourage you to choose Him, because He has already chosen you. His love for you is incredibly generous.

I matter a great deal to God…
“But now, thus says the Lord… "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.” - Isaiah 43:1 NKJV
Did you notice how powerful this verse is? “Fear not!” Don’t fear! Don’t worry about anything! Don’t allow your thoughts to run away! Don’t be worried about things! Do not fear!
To live under fear or faith is a choice we need to make. The one we choose, is the one in which we place our trust and our focus. Here God is saying, “Fear not!” Why? Because God has redeemed us. In fact, He didn’t just redeem us and then let us go—He called us by name which should get you excited.
One of the definitions for ‘called’ is ‘to be proclaimed, or to read aloud’. Consider the multiple references to the Lamb’s Book of Life we see in the book of Revelation. Now picture God reading from that book and declaring out your name. Read the above verse again but now with the understanding that He is literally saying, “You are mine!”
Consider a valuable possession you own. If someone wants to touch it, look at it or hold it, you might allow them, but you would be watching very closely. If we are Father’s possession, then how much do you think He watches over us? He is concerned with your well being and He notices what is happening in your life moment by moment, because you matter a great deal to Him.
Today go and celebrate, because you are God’s possession. He paid for you and you matter a great deal to Him.

I am healed…
“Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed.” - 1 Peter 2:24 NKJV
Have you ever wondered when God will get around to healing you? If you have, you are not alone. However, this may come as a shock to you, but the truth is that God is not going to do anything more regarding your healing than what He has already done.
1 Peter 2:24 says, “By whose stripes you were healed.” Jesus paid the price for our healing on the cross. There is not anything more He can do, because if there was, it would mean that His finished work on the cross wasn’t enough - but I’m telling you right now, “It was!”
What we need to do is stand in faith and agree with His Words, not with what we see, but that does not mean we are denying what may be obvious in front of us. When the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho in Joshua 6, they saw the wall; they would have acknowledged the wall in their minds; but they weren’t allowed to speak about the wall, because their focus was to be on God’s promise which was a declaration that those walls were coming down. When they shouted, they shouted in faith. They didn’t align their mouths with what they saw, they aligned their mouths with the promise of God which said that wall was coming down!
Choose today to align your mouth with His Word and boldly continue to declare that “by His stripes you were healed.”

My mind is sharp…
“It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” - 2 Corinthians 3:5 NKJV
There are times throughout my life when I have felt that I am just not good enough. But I also know that the enemy loves to pull us down because he knows that God has a plan and purposes for our lives and as we fulfil that plan, we bring honour and glory to God.
Jeremiah 29:11 says that God has a good plan for me. He plans to give me a ‘future and a hope’. So, to help move me forward in God’s plans and purposes for my life, I need to continually remind myself that God sees things in me that I (or others) may not see, and if God, knowing what He knows, still has a good plan for me it would serve me well to trust that the Creator of the universe knows what He is doing, and allow Him to lead me rather than me try to lead Him.
So, with that in mind, I choose to tell myself that I am good enough! I choose to tell myself that I have a sharp mind! I choose to tell myself that I am creative! I choose to tell myself that I am effective! I choose to be led by God and His Word and I declare that my mind is anointed for His work because He lives in me!
What a powerful thought. God has a plan for me. I don’t do it alone because He lives in me; He has given me His Word; He equips me; and He leads me. I can’t lose when I am partnered with Him.

An amazing destiny…
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
Anyone who has studied leadership knows the importance of vision. We need to know where we are going, even God tells us that. Vision is actually a Biblical principle. Proverbs 29:18 even tells us that without a vision, people perish. We all need to have a vision for our lives, but there is still one question we need to consider when it comes to vision: “Who’s vision are we following?”
We can have a vision for our life, but I can tell you right now, I’d much rather have God’s vision than mine. God says He “plans to prosper me and not to harm me. He plans to give me hope and a future.” I don’t know about you, but that sounds like God wants the best for me, and if it’s God’s best, then it will be amazing and far greater than anything I could ever dream up.
If He has a plan for you, then it makes sense that He would want you to know what it is. If you don’t know it yet, then take some time to pray and ask Him to reveal that to you. It probably won’t all come at once, but as you and He begin to walk in that together, you are destined for some good times.

Who’s report will you believe…?
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night." - Psalms 1:1-2 NKJV
You may have grown up believing something like: “My grandmother and my mother both had diabetes, so I it’s only a matter of time before I get it too…” or, “My father had a temper. Everyone says I’ve been cast from the same mould, so I’m bound to be the same…” No matter what has been spoken over you, the things we believe we are bound to, are not actually set in stone. Just keep reading God’s Word and you will soon see, but first, let’s look at something interesting from the above verses.
Two important words we need to better understand are ‘delight’ and ‘law’. ‘Law’ means ‘direction or instruction’, and ‘delight’ comes from a word that literally means ‘to bend’. God gives us direction or instruction in His Word, but we are to ‘bend’ or believe Him before we believe anyone else. What would happen if you took all these things you have been told about yourself, things that are supposedly ‘out of your control’ and bent them in God’s direction. What if allowed God’s Word to dictate what you believed about yourself, and gave it priority in your life over words spoken by supposed ‘experts’.
Know for a fact that no-one holds more authority than God Himself (Philippians 2:9), so come back to a place of delighting yourself in His word. If you do, He says you will be blessed.

Balanced prosperity…
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” - 3 John 1:2 NKJV
We know that God wants to prosper us because His Word tells us so (Jeremiah 29:11; 3 John 1:2) but this one verse helps bring some important balance to the prosperity message.
“Prosper in all things and be in health…” sounds exciting, because ‘all things’ means ‘all things’. However, what people often miss is the word ‘just’ which literally means ‘in proportion to’. This means that the last few words of this verse are actually a ‘tape measure’ for us. If we want to understand balanced prosperity, we need to first understand prosperity of the soul.
Our soul comprises of our mind, will and emotions. A prosperous mind is one that meditates on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). We can all have a prosperous mind because we are all free to choose what we think on. Next is a prosperous will. Jesus modelled this for us in the garden of Gethsemane before he died for us. He said, “Father, not My will but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). A prosperous will is one that puts Father’s will over ours. Lastly, prosperous emotions are emotions that include God. I’ve heard it said, “Our emotions are a gauge, not a guide”, whether we are hurting or rejoicing, Father is always there, both for and with us.
If you want to be truly prosperous, surrender every part of your life to God, because as your focus is on more of Him, you will find that less of the greed of this world will stick to you.

My mind is fixed…
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” - Isaiah 26:3 NLT
What things do you have your mind fixed on? With everything that is going on with our lives, with our families, with our jobs, with the news, and society all around us, it’s easy for us to stay focussed on those things that are happening, but the truth is that when we focus on things that bring fear and worry, it leaves us feeling anxious and overwhelmed and that is not what our Father intends for our lives.
He intends for us to walk in peace every day of our lives which is why it is so important for us to decide which things we fix our minds on. You could choose to think on things that breed fear and anxiety, but if you don’t enjoy feeling anxious, stressed, or worried, then choose to fix your minds on Jesus as your Protector; your Provision, your Counsellor, your Comforter the very One who is the Peace you so need.
He promised that if we fix our thoughts on Him, then we would walk not only in peace, but in perfect peace. God doesn’t lie, and He wants the best for us. Fear and anxiety is not God’s best. Choose to fix your mind on Him, and begin to place all your trust in Him and let peace rule in your heart from today onwards.

God wants my family saved…
“(God) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” - 1 Timothy 2:4 NKJV
Consider for a moment, the eternal consequences that await who don’t know Jesus when they die. I don’t know about you, but the thought of choosing eternity without Jesus absolutely terrifies me. We rejoice knowing we are going to heaven, and that’s a great thing, but what about eternal state of the lost, especially those we call family? What would heaven be like, if they weren’t there? How desperate are you for God to rescue and deliver your family? What would it mean to see them totally and radically saved?
As I’m writing this, I’m deeply aware that there will be mixed feelings in people concerning their families and there will be a variety of reasons for this, but regardless of how we feel, good or bad, the thing we need to focus on is that God, the one who gave us His all; the one who paid the price for our sins; the one who thought we were deserving of another chance; the one who forgave our worst sins, that loving Father desires all men to be saved. That included you, and it also includes your family.
For some people, this might be a stretch, but know this: Even though God will never override our will, He has told us that if we won’t forgive others, He can’t forgive us. If we won’t, He can’t. Let’s not be the roadblock to anyone’s salvation. For others, this may stir you to pray even more, but regardless of who you are, pray for your family, because God desires to see them all saved.
