A Prayer for the people of Nepal and Tibet

Gracious and loving God, our lives are in your hands. When we are overwhelmed with grief and shock, confronted by mortality and the fragility of life, for others and for ourselves, remind us of your presence with us. We pray for the people of Nepal and Tibet, for all whose lives were suddenly taken; for those who remain lost in the turmoil; for their families and friends, nearby and across the world; for first responders and aid workers reaching out in care; for generosity and compassion from world leaders and all who have capacity to respond; and for those who will commit to the long term rebuilding of lives.

Challenge our complacency about climate change and the devastation brought about by human activity across the world. Comfort the people of Nepal and Tibet, bring them peace, and disturb our complacency, so that we will be agents of transformation and signs of your compassion, your love and care. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Galvanized Festival's flagship event, the 2026 Proms will feature the premiere of a new work by local composer Cate Carter. The piece, 'Creator of the Stars of Night' is a new setting of a 7th century latin hymn 'Conditor alme siderum' translated by the 19th century English poet and Anglican priest John Mason Neale. Cate has written a soaring arrangement for choir, organ and oboe, that will feature the beautifully restored J.W. Walker organ. 2026 Proms is on Saturday 12 September at 7pm at St Paul's Church, Ipswich. Tickets available at www.trybooking.com/DNNGJ
