Significant church history today…

2026 is the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale’s 1526 New Testament. It was the first time the New Testament was translated from Greek and made available in English.

Pray for Nepal

The Archbishop of Sydney has shared this prayer for Nepal and Tibet…

Sovereign Lord and heavenly Father, in whose hands are life and death, Our hearts ache for the families waiting for news of loved ones caught in the Nepal-Tibet flash floods.

Preserve life, O Lord. May many of the missing be found safe and returned to their homes. Grant strength, endurance and skill to emergency workers and search teams. May they reach many who are still alive.

We pray especially for Australian tourists caught up in this disaster, and for Nepali Australians with loved ones in the affected areas. In the midst of uncertainty, grant them courage. Be their refuge and strength in this time of distress and sorrow, O Lord. Amen.

We have difficult news today. Please pray for the loved ones of our Pakistani brother, Amir Peter.

Amir died in prison earlier this month after being falsely accused of blasphemy.

He was arrested in July 2025 after local merchants filed a complaint against him. Despite his claims of innocence, he remained imprisoned for months while his health declined. Amir suffered from diabetes, but he did not receive the necessary medical care and later died from complications related to his condition.

This is a heartbreaking reminder of the fear and injustice many Christians face in Pakistan, where blasphemy accusations can bring devastating consequences.

Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are often used unfairly against Christians. Accusations can stem from personal disputes, property conflicts, or other unrelated grievances, but they can lead to threats, mob violence, and imprisonment.

Today, we grieve with our brother's family and pray for all believers in Pakistan who live under the weight of fear and injustice.

🙏 Pray for comfort for Amir’s loved ones.
🙏 Pray for protection for Christians vulnerable to false accusations.
🙏 Pray for justice for Christians and all those suffering under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.
🙏 Pray that God will strengthen His Church to stand firm in faith.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10)

Some more significant and interesting Christian history…

He was martyred because he believed God's word should be accessible to ordinary people, in their language.

This year marks 500 years since William Tyndale's English New Testament first appeared in print. He was executed for this work in 1536, but the words survived. Five centuries on, they are still in your Bible. Phrases such as "let there be light," "the powers that be," and "salt of the earth" came from his pen.

Every English translation since, from the King James to the NIV, stands on his shoulders.
