🙂 JOIN US TODAY

The Australian National Imams Council and the Council of Imams of New South Wales warmly invite you, along with your family and friends, to attend a community gathering titled Prayer for Peace this Friday afternoon.

This gathering comes at an important time for our community and our nation. It is an opportunity to stand together in faith, unity and dignity, and to call upon Allah for peace, safety and justice for all.

🗓 TODAY
🕕 6:00pm to 7:45pm

Asr prayer will be performed in congregation as part of the program. Please arrive by 5:45pm to allow time to prepare and line up.

We look forward to seeing you there and ask Allah to accept from us all.

👉 Objectives of the Gathering:

✅ To provide a sacred and open space for the Muslim community to gather in congregational prayer (salat al-Jama‘ah), with Adhan and Qur’an recitation, fostering spiritual strength and unity

✅ To anchor our advocacy in the greatest act we offer each day: salah and du‘a, turning first to Allah as the ultimate source of justice, relief, and change

✅ To uplift and strengthen the Muslim community through reflections from Imams and community leaders, grounding our perseverance and advocacy in the Prophetic example of patience, dignity, and steadfastness in the face of injustice

✅ To welcome voices from other faith traditions who recognise the sanctity of prayer as a means of moral awakening, solace, and dignified transformation

✅ To provide a principled platform for the continued call for justice as we advocate for the restoration of rights and the removal of injustice at all levels of society

✅ To respectfully and firmly raise concern regarding instances of immoral, disproportionate, or unfair treatment by elements within law enforcement and public office toward those advocating for the freedom, dignity, and safety of all Palestinians

✅ Prepare the minds and hearts of Muslims for the holiest time in the year, the month of Ramadan

We stand in solidarity with the Australian Jewish community, the victims, and their families, and with all those affected. We extend our support and deepest sympathies to the Jewish community during this difficult time.

While this attack has targeted the Jewish community, it is in reality an attack on all of us, including the Muslim community. This violent terrorist act constitutes an attack on all Australians. Violence and terrorism have no place in our society, and targeting innocent people undermines the safety, dignity, and cohesion of our nation.

ANIC and the Muslim community unequivocally condemn all attacks on civilians. Antisemitism, expressed through hate, harassment, and violence directed at the Jewish community, has no place in our society. We unequivocally reject these acts and reaffirm our shared responsibility to uphold respect, safety, and dignity for all communities in Australia.

ANIC has made it very clear that Islam and Muslims unequivocally condemn terrorism, violence, and the targeting of civilians in all its forms. Islam clearly prohibits the killing of innocent people and the spreading of fear and harm. Islam firmly rejects extremism and terrorism in all their forms, as they contradict its teachings and values. Muslims have also been among the victims of extremism and terrorism, and we know firsthand the pain, harm, and division these acts cause.

We urge the community and representatives to reach out to their Jewish neighbours, friends, and colleagues to offer support and comfort during this difficult time.

As the peak body representing Imams and the Muslim community in Australia, ANIC speaks with clarity and responsibility on this matter. An attack on one community is an attack on us all. This is a time for true unity and solidarity with one another, guided by our shared moral values and our common responsibility to protect the safety and dignity of every Australian.

We will defy the division sought by those who seek to divide us.

The Council of Imams NSW convened an informal gathering for discussion and dinner for its Imams on Thursday 4th September 2025.

We exchanged experiences, challenges and opportunities.

Among the important issues raised were:

- Reducing barriers between the youth and Imams and masajid
- Extending the Preservation of Islamic Identity project to equip Imams and parents in order to assist them to tackle theological and moral doubts from a convincing, rational perspective
- Supporting converts within their newly found communities

We look forward to further engagements with Imams and community and youth leaders.

On Tuesday 18 February 2024, Imam Ahmed Abdo, Chairman of the Council of Imams NSW and Vice President of the Australian National Imams Council, joined a powerful community gathering hosted by Sydney Alliance at Revesby Uniting Church. He delivered an engaging story based talk to the audience from unions, religious groups, and civic society on the impact of climate change, energy bills, and community!

The evening began with a warm welcome, a shared meal, and a heartfelt acknowledgment of the Bidgigal People, the Custodians of the lands, skies, and waters. In a spirit of unity, this was done in English, Swahili, and Creole—a true reflection of our diverse community.

Attendees shared moving stories about the realities of housing, homelessness, energy, the rising cost of living, and our changing climate. In small groups, everyone reflected on their own experiences, reinforcing the importance of faith-driven action in addressing these pressing challenges.

Together, we committed to making a difference. We wrote our stories on postcards to be delivered to decision-makers and preparing for the Sydney Alliance Federal Pre-Election Assembly.

🤝 This event was a powerful reminder that real change begins with strong communities coming together. We thank Sydney Alliance for bringing people of all backgrounds and faiths together to stand for justice and collective action.

If you are interested to attend the 1,000+ audience Sydney Alliance Pre-Election Assembly on Thursday 13 March 2025 (yes it is Ramadan, and you will get a free Iftar as well!) please contact us at [email protected] and you could be part of the ANIC delegation 😀

Alhamdulillah, by the grace and mercy of Allah, the Council of Imams NSW and Australian National Imams Council successfully held a Khateeb Training Workshop last Saturday! 🎙️✨

This noble initiative aimed to equip both aspiring and experienced Khateebs with the knowledge, wisdom, and skills to deliver impactful khutbas with sincerity and excellence.

We were blessed to host a diverse group of brothers, including high school seniors, university students, and seasoned Khateebs who regularly deliver khutbas in Masajid, Musallas, and various venues across Sydney. Their dedication to perfecting their craft and conveying the divine message of Islam was truly inspiring.

🔹 Sheikh Rami delivered valuable insights on the Fiqh, spirituality, and significance of the khutba as a means of guidance for the community.

🔹 Ustadh Malaz Majani, CEO of OnePath Network, led a practical session on public speaking skills and effective khutba delivery.

🔹 We were also honoured by the presence of Dr. Ibrahim Abu Muhammad, Grand M***i of Australia, who shared his wisdom on the profound responsibility of delivering the khutba, the importance of sincerity, and the need to touch as many hearts as possible through the Jumu'ah sermon.

Are you interested in future Khateeb training workshops? 📢 Fill out the form at the link below, and we’ll notify you when the next session is scheduled, in shaa Allah!

6. Islamic Knowledge and Practice
Also, how do we take the means without reducing our tawakkul in Allah on one hand, and without being negligent so that we do not strive on the other hand?)
