What happens when the goodness of God doesn’t stop with us?

In the final message of our For the Common Good series, we look again at 1 Corinthians 13 and ask what spiritual maturity actually looks like.

Paul’s answer is not simply giftedness, knowledge, or spiritual intensity.

It is love.

Love that takes the shape of Jesus.�Love that moves outward.�Love that seeks the good of another.

What might it look like for the life of Christ among us to become good news for our neighbours and wider community?

This Sunday we finish our ‘For the Common Good’ series by asking a simple but searching question:

*Who is experiencing the goodness of God because we are here?*

Over these past weeks we’ve talked about God’s Spirit, the grace entrusted to each of us, and the way we are formed together into Christ’s body. But the body is not the final destination of grace.

Love begins among us, but it is meant to keep flowing outward.

So what might it look like for the life of Christ among us to become good news for our neighbours, our community, and the people God places in front of us?

What does Paul really mean when he says that the church is the “body of Christ”?

It’s easy to reduce the image to a metaphor about teamwork: everyone has a role, everyone has a part to play.

But Paul seems to mean something much deeper.

This week in our series, ‘For the Common Good’, we explored what it means to be joined to the living Christ, and through him, to one another.

One Christ. Many members. One shared life.

We use the phrase “the body of Christ” so often in church that it can become almost invisible to us.
 
We hear it and think: everyone has a part to play. We all have different gifts. We’re all on the same team.
 
But what if Paul means something far deeper than that?
 
This Sunday at Hinterland Chapel we continue our series, ‘For the Common Good’ with *Christ’s Body*, exploring what it means to be joined to Christ, and through him, to one another.
 
It may be one of the most familiar images in the New Testament.
 
It may also be one of the most mysterious.

What if your spiritual gift isn’t really about you?

We often explore spiritual gifts by asking, “What is my gift? What is my identity? Where do I fit?”

But the New Testament seems to turn the question outward.

What if a spiritual gift is better understood as *grace from God entrusted to you for somebody else?*

In this week’s message from the series, ‘For the Common Good’, we explore why spiritual gifts are not meant to become labels, status, or spiritual identities, and why the body actually needs the grace God has entrusted to each of us.

The invitation is not to become spiritually impressive, but to become available.

What is your spiritual gift?

It’s a question Christians have asked for a long time.

But what if it’s not the best place to begin?

This Sunday at Hinterland Chapel we’ll be exploring a different way of thinking about spiritual gifts: not as labels, spiritual personality types, or abilities we possess, but as *grace from God entrusted to us for somebody else.*

Perhaps the better question is not simply: “What gift do I have?”, but:

“Who might be waiting to receive grace God has entrusted to me?”

This Sunday we begin a new series:

God’s Spirit.

For the Good of All.

We begin with *God’s Spirit* and a simple but important shift:

The Christian life isn’t primarily about asking, “What can I do for God?”

It begins by asking:

“What is God already doing, and how might I participate?”

Because God is already at work. And he hasn’t left us to work it out alone.

Hinterland Chapel Agápē Feast

This Sunday, we gather at the table to feast and commune!

An Agápē Feast is a shared meal in which we celebrate the overflowing, generous love of God expressed in community. And community takes time and intentionality.

Instead of our usual service, we’ll meet at 11am to set up, then sit down to eat at noon beneath the beautiful fig trees.

If you’re new, please don’t be deterred. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet people and get to know one another.

Bring some food to share, or simply bring yourself. There will be plenty.
