Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Asian Ministry Conference!

We're so thankful for the time we were able to share together and a particular thank you to our keynote speaker, Daniel D Lee, for the depth and generosity he brought to his teaching on contextual theology and Asian ministry.

Throughout the day we kept returning to the questions that matter most: what faithful, contextual ministry looks like in the Asian-Australian church, and what that looks like in practice across missional, campus, and church ministry contexts.

Chinese Australian women in Christian ministry often navigate a space shaped by more than one story — inherited Chinese cultural expectations, the legacy of Chinese Bible Women, migration and generational change and the complementarian-egalitarian debates within Australian evangelicalism.

Grace's paper draws on interviews with Chinese Australian church leaders to explore how these dynamics shape women serving in Chinese heritage churches, and proposes "in-between-ness" as a framework for understanding their leadership, not as marginalisation to be resolved but as a location with its own creative possibilities.

As Chinese Christian communities grow globally, they face pressure to adopt models of church shaped by efficiency and measurable success.

Elliot Ku's paper argues disability theology has something vital to offer here, not as a marginal concern, but as a necessary partner for faithful ecclesiology.

Bringing Lesslie Newbigin's missional vision into dialogue with disability theology, the paper contends that the church's witness rests not in mastery or autonomy, but in shared dependence and embodied participation.

Theological orthodoxy doesn't change across cultures, but ministry practice always takes shape within a particular time and place.

Kamal Weerakoon's paper looks at how that contextualisation gets passed down, and why first and later-generation Asian migrant Christians often experience it differently, sometimes fuelling tension like the "silent exodus" out of Asian churches.

Drawing on his doctoral research, it suggests ways to reframe traditioned practices, such as biblical authority, liturgy, and elder-honour, so that generational differences become a source of mutual joy rather than conflict.
