Centre for Asian Christianity Facilitating theological best practice in Asian contexts within Australia and beyond

28/05/2026

We’re pleased to have Daniel Lee as our keynote speaker for the 2026 Asian Ministry Conference!

Daniel is the founding Academic Dean of Fuller’s Asian American Center. Serving in various leadership roles since 2010, he has been the key force behind the Center and the Asian American Initiative before that. He has also taught theology and Asian American studies at Fuller since 2015.

In this short clip, Daniel shares about one of the key themes he’ll be exploring at the conference: how the different aspects of who we are, our culture, identity, experiences, and ministry context, connect with the gospel and shape everyday ministry.

These are not just abstract theological questions. They affect how we disciple, lead, preach, care for people, and serve in Asian-Australian ministry contexts.

If you are a second-generation pastor, lay leader or ministry worker, or thinking through contextual ministry more deeply, we would love for you to join us.

📆When: Friday, 31st July (Conference) & Saturday, 1st August (Academic Colloquium) 2026
📍Where: Sydney Missionary and Bible College (Roberts-Dale Campus)

Early bird registrations are now open!

Interesting take on Moses' so-called speech impediment - maybe it was actually that as an adoptee, he wasn't that great in translating between Hebrew and Egyptian?

"Asian Americans may well identify with [Moses'] emotional feelings of linguistic inadequacy in light of the enormous task God presented to him at the burning bush. Moses’s trepidation concerning his deficient Hebrew language skills was the driving force behind his final excuse to the Lord, rather than the physical speech impediment presumed by the majority of Western-educated biblical interpreters."

The Centre for Asian Christianity is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev Dr Elliot Ku as an Honorary Research Associate.

Elliot serves as Lead Pastor of The Well Church and lectures in Church History at Christ College and Equip Seminary Malaysia. He completed theological studies at Christ College and Biola University, and is currently undertaking a PhD in Theology at Australian Catholic University.

His research focuses on disability theology, missiology, Asian ecclesiology, and diaspora Christianity. Elliot’s current work explores how disability theology can shape the identity and witness of Chinese churches in a global context, particularly through themes of relational personhood, interdependence, and faithful witness.

Alongside his academic work, Elliot brings years of pastoral ministry experience and a strong commitment to serving the Asian church in Australia and beyond.

We are grateful to welcome Elliot and look forward to hearing him share his research at the CAC Colloquium on 1st August 2026.

REGISTER for the CAC Asian Ministry Conference!

We are coming to Sydney, at SMBC for our annual conference, an event designed to help you lead in Asian ministry contexts.

Designed for second-generation pastors, lay leaders, and ministry workers, this year’s conference tackles the contextuality of our work. We will be looking at both recent scholarship as well as addressing the practical cultural nuances of leadership, governance, and the unique challenges of the migrant church structure. Whether you are navigating pastoral-elder relations or serving international students, join us as we bridge the gap between academic scholarship and the challenges of daily ministry.
We're excited to have world class theologian, Dr. Daniel D. Lee from Fuller Seminary as our keynote speaker.

For the first time, we are also introducing the CAC Colloquium. This gathering will feature recent scholarly work in Asian and Australian Christianity whilst bringing their voices and insights in discussion with ministry practitioners.

Details on presentations and speakers will be updated shortly.

Excellent opportunity for professional development! Get in now for Early Bird pricing!
