Open Tues–Sun & public hols, 9am–5pm. A branch of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order Nan Tien Temple is the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere.

The largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere is a place for mindfulness, meditation retreats, festivals, classes, markets, vegetarian dining & landscaped gardens. Founded in 1965 by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, it's one of 200 branch temples of Fo Guang Shan, an international Chinese Buddhist monastic order. The order promotes what is called 'Humanistic Buddhism', placing an emphasis on integrating Buddhist practices into everyday life. "Nan Tien" in Chinese, literally means "Paradise of the South".

🌟 Nan Tien Temple recently held its final Baby Blessing Ceremony of the year. Through the purifying water of compassion and the Buddha's boundless grace, we prayed for our little ones and expectant mothers—may they grow in wisdom, virtue, and lifelong peace.

🪷 Families from diverse backgrounds gathered to receive this sacred blessing, wishing the little ones bright minds, abundant blessings, and a future deeply loved by all.

🌸 Stillness, stories and a whole lot of heart 🌸

What a beautiful 10 days it’s been! 💛 The 2026 Nan Tien Children’s Writers & Illustrators Residency has come to a close, and our hearts are full.

This spring, 16 wonderful authors and illustrators from NSW, VIC, TAS, SA and the ACT called Nan Tien Temple home. Between writing and sketching, they slowed down and settled into the gentle rhythm of temple life. 🍃

Together we shared temple tours, morning Tai Chi 🥋, sutra calligraphy ✍️, meditation and Tea Chan 🍵, a one-day meditation retreat 🧘, creative sharing sessions, and even a very special birthday celebration 🎂

To all 16 creators: thank you for your kindness, your laughter and your imagination. 🙏 It was a joy to have you here, and we can’t wait to see the stories and artworks that grew from your time with us. 📚🎨

🙏 Walking the Bodhi Path Together | Nan Tien Temple Buddhist Wedding ✨

💓 Opening their hearts before the Triple Gem, the couple vowed to support and trust one another as they walk forward hand in hand.

🪷 A warm and joyful Buddhist wedding recently took place in the Great Compassion Hall at Nan Tien Temple. Witnessed by the Venerable, the couple made a solemn vow to become Dharma companions on the Bodhi path, establishing a blissful Fo Guang family.

💖 May the Triple Gem bless them. Let us offer our warmest wishes to the newlyweds for a lifetime of harmony and a blissful union! 💐

✨ Welcome to Nan Tien ✨

The 2026 Nan Tien Children’s Authors and Illustrators Residency is officially underway!

Our 16 residents arrived on Tuesday, 29 September, and have spent their first couple of days settling in, exploring Nan Tien and getting to know one another.

We’ve captured a few moments from their first days here, from morning chanting and quiet creative time to new connections and exploring the temple grounds.

We’re delighted to welcome this talented group to Nan Tien and look forward to seeing the stories, ideas and illustrations that unfold during their residency.
