Muhammad Ali....just the name alone makes you think of the ballerina like grace in which he danced around a ring,the speed of those flying fists at rapid pace or the mouth that would half beat an opponent before he even entered an arena.
To many out there he’s considered the greatest boxer of all times...”of all times!.”His ring monicker of “the greatest” would also emphasise the self belief he had within himself,not only in victory but also in defeat Ali knew the importance of believing in himself when nobody else did..or would.
That self belief wasn’t just an act of bravado...it was in fact embedded within him and forged through the hours upon hours of repeatedly beating away at his craft. He was the first in the gym and the last to leave.. he took his licks and earned his stripes.
Now anybody can be ‘confident’ in theirselves when the going is good,but it’s when you have your back to the wall or having taken a loss you see the true depth and character of a man. Confidence and belief are an essential quality every fighter must have...but where do you draw confidence from having lost? Where does the self belief come from when you have lost? It comes from the hours and days and years spent working,the times you didn’t want to run,didn’t want to spar...it comes from what you may or may not have done previously. Every man will lose when he tests himself against the very best out there.
Not every man can muster the courage,strength and belief without diligent preparation...it’s what will keep you looking forward when the tough times are present. Ali although blessed with skills others could only envy had something else inside of him to match the skill...an undying will to accept failure,the work ethic unrivalled to others.
