RCZ to open two more clinics in Binga

The Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) is set to commission two additional clinics in
Binga District by the end of the year, as the church continues to expand its community
development programmes in the area.
The clinics, which are being established at RCZ Manyanda and Mabobolo schools, are
expected to bring essential healthcare services closer to communities that have for years
faced challenges in accessing primary healthcare.
The development follows the commissioning of RCZ Manyanda Primary and Secondary
Schools, as well as Mabobolo schools, by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe,
Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in 2023.
Speaking on the development, RCZ Health Secretary Samuel Mhungu, said the church
remained committed to serving communities and responding to their most pressing needs.
“With Mabobolo and Manyanda clinics now standing alongside RCZ Tinde clinic, Binga has
3 beacons of hope. This is the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe living out God’s mission
healing bodies, restoring dignity, and loving communities into wholeness.
“The commissioning of these two clinics will represent another significant milestone in the
RCZ’s long-standing mission of combining evangelism with practical community
development,” said Mhungu.
Having made significant progress in addressing the educational needs of the community, the
church has now turned its attention to healthcare, which remains one of the major needs in
the area.
The need for intervention in education, healthcare and road infrastructure was identified
when Evangelist Banda invited the church to spread the Word of God in the area. During the
church’s evangelism activities, members of the team discovered that some of the people
receiving food packages could neither sign the registers nor write their names.
The discovery highlighted the extent of the challenges faced by communities in the area,
particularly in accessing basic social services.

Residents previously had to travel more than 19 kilometres to access healthcare facilities
and educational services. Women and children were among those most affected by the
limited access to primary healthcare.
The RCZ began its work in the area over 20 years back through evangelism, spreading the Word of God
and demonstrating Christian love through various charitable and community development
initiatives.
Construction of the primary schools commenced in 2008, while construction of the
secondary schools began in 2009. The institutions are now fully functional, registered, and
have been officially commissioned.
The establishment of the two clinics is expected to further strengthen the church’s
contribution to the development of the Binga community by complementing its investment in
education with improved access to healthcare.
From spreading the Gospel,to investing in schools and now healthcare facilities, the
church’s work in Binga continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the well-being
of the communities it serves.

Jesus Was Mocked for Your Sake

On the cross Jesus prayed: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). Because of ignorance, verses 63–64 show Him mocked and beaten, blindfolded and challenged to prophesy who struck Him. He told His captors: “When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness” (v.53).

Luke 22:52–62

Those Who Remember God’s Word Repent

Seeing his betrayal, Judas Iscariot was filled with remorse and hanged himself (Matthew 27:5). Peter, though he had vowed never to deny Jesus, even to death (Matthew 26:35)—was confronted three times and denied Him each time. Verse 61 says: “And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord… Before the c**k crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.” Verse 62 adds: “And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.”
It is Christ’s way to give another chance, as He said to the woman caught in sin: “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more” (John 8:11).

Luke 22:39–46

Let Difficult Times Draw You Closer to God

The hymn writer of number 127 longs to be drawn close to God in times of trial, singing: “Pedyo wedenga She, ndiswededzei, nyangwe ndowirwawo nenhamo sei…” Such seeking after God in seasons of heaviness is what we see in today’s word: “And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44). As Jesus prayed over the weight of what lay before Him, the cross, verse 45 shows His disciples overcome with sorrow, sleeping instead of watching. To carry burdens too heavily in the heart can sap the strength to pray, as it did for them. Hebrews 5:7 describes Christ’s life in those moments: “Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared.”
When life presses hard against you, seek the face of God, for “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him” (Nahum 1:7).
