Strengthening Dialogue and Learning through Masidama in Dora Ward 35 🤝

On Thursday last week, DOMCCP continued its Masidama support and learning visit in Dora Ward 35, bringing together participants from different groups at 4 Roads for a joint engagement.

The visit was supported by Trocaire as part of its ongoing accompaniment and learning support to DOMCCP. It created an opportunity to listen to community experiences, reflect on the progress being made, and understand the challenges and lessons emerging from the programme.

Following the joint session, participants separated into two groups women and men creating safe spaces for more open and meaningful conversations.

Participants and facilitators shared their experiences, discussed challenges encountered during implementation, and offered recommendations on how the programme can be strengthened.

These conversations are an important part of Masidama. They allow us to listen, learn and adapt together, while ensuring that community voices remain at the centre of the programme.

Through Masidama, we continue to work with communities to challenge harmful gender norms and promote women’s voice, leadership and meaningful participation. 💪🏾

Creating Space for Learning, Reflection and Strengthening 🤝

Today in Sakubva, the Diocese of Mutare Community Care Programme (DOMCCP) hosted Trocaire for a support visit to the Masidama project.

As part of the visit, Trocaire observed separate Masidama sessions facilitated by women facilitators and men facilitators, gaining a closer understanding of how the sessions are being implemented within the community.

Following the sessions, facilitators had an opportunity to share their experiences, challenges and recommendations. These reflections provided valuable insights into the realities of implementation and highlighted areas where further support and strengthening may be needed.

The visit created a meaningful space for listening, learning and constructive reflection, while reinforcing the importance of working closely with facilitators and communities to strengthen the programme.

We value the continued partnership and support of Trocaire as we work together to strengthen women’s voice, leadership and meaningful participation in community spaces.

When we listen to those implementing the work, we learn how to make it stronger. 🤝

Clean water is coming closer to both the school and the community at Bvirindi 💧🏫

This project was designed to make a real difference—not just for learners, but for the wider community too.

Here’s the progress so far:

Solar panels are installed ☀️
The old bush pump has been removed
A new water tank is now in place
Tap stands have been installed at the school and outside for community use

Water is not yet flowing, but everything is now set up 🙌

Soon, learners, teachers, and community members will have easy access to clean water right where they need it 💙

This means better hygiene, less time spent fetching water, and a healthier environment for everyone.

Bringing clean water closer to Bvirindi 💧

In Bvirindi, the water source is located far from the school — making daily access a challenge for students and staff.

We are currently working on a solar-powered system that will pump water from the borehole directly to the school, improving access for the entire community.

What makes this project even more meaningful is the active involvement of the community every step of the way 👏

This is progress in action — and we’re excited to share the journey.

Last week, our trained community facilitators convened a Women’s Safe Space session with women in the community in Dora Ward 35.

The session created a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where every woman could freely share her experiences. Participants reflected on moments when they felt oppressed, discriminated against, exploited, or unheard.

Through open dialogue and collective reflection, the women explored practical ways to promote respect, inclusion, and meaningful participation within their families, churches, and the wider community.

Safe spaces like these are vital in empowering women to find their voice, build confidence, and support one another in driving positive change.

Through the Masidama Project, DOMCCP continues to engage men as important partners in promoting gender equality 🤝

Our trained male facilitators recently led their first Men’s Safe Space sessions with participants from the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches.

The sessions created a space for open and honest conversations around gender roles, cultural beliefs, and traditions that shape how men and women are viewed in our communities.

Together, participants reflected on how some norms can contribute to inequality, and explored practical ways to promote respect, shared decision-making, and equal opportunities in their families and communities 💬

Men’s Safe Spaces are helping to build understanding, challenge harmful beliefs, and encourage men to become allies in supporting women’s leadership and participation.
