Structures -Staffing
Having designed a functional structure of choice, another major decision is of placing the RIGHT candidates in those vacancies.
Yes, i said its a major decision because you have to be strong enough to ignore emotions and friendly ties. When selecting people to fill the vacancies in you organization, make sure you scout talent and reward competence.
Put the deserving people in the places arising and you will forever enjoy success.
Many at times entrepreneurs consider their relatives and friends disregarding qualifications and competency and that's a definate recipe for disaster.
Don't get me twisted, Iam NOT saying you should ignore your relatives on your way up but I am saying try to find the deserving ones first and grow to a point where you can raise the rest.
The initial stages of business are critical, staffing error may mean an outright shipwreck for the whole thing and all of you will remain stuck in poverty.
At times its better to take an outsider with skills and competence and the train your relatives by and by without affecting the critical progress of the enterprise.
My personal opinion on this in simple language is: in transport business (kombi), i would rather employ a skillful conductor that will raise $100 and give me $90 than to take a "faithful" boy from my rural home who hand me every cent but can hardly raise $30 per day.
Am not condoning lack of integrity but am highlighting some of the tough decisions you have to make inorder to progress as an entrepreneur....
The young relative of mine may have to come in later , provided he is willing to learn and master the skills.
Get the right staff.
Your organization is as excellent as the people that represent it.
