A Memorable DS Birthday Celebration at St Peter’s inner-city Mutare (The vibrant rock).Let it start in Jerusalem and then to Judea.

On a sunny Saturday morning, all roads led to St Peter’s UMC for a special birthday celebration in honour of the District Superintendent Rev Joseph Charinge (DS), organised by the Mutare District COS Committee.

The patrons of the occasion were dressed to impress, beautifully reflecting the colours of the day—turquoise green and gold. The DS looked elegant in a turquoise green suit, while the spouse complemented the theme in a stunning gold dress. Their coordinated outfits added colour and elegance to an already vibrant occasion.

It was truly a high-profile celebration, filled with joy, music and fellowship. Guests rejoiced to the lively rhythms of the keyboard as the atmosphere remained filled with excitement and thanksgiving. Each speaker, one after another, shared heartfelt congratulatory messages, celebrating the DS and wishing him continued blessings and success.

All Mutare District circuits, organisation representatives and invited guests came together to grace the occasion and make it a memorable one. Their presence demonstrated the love, unity and appreciation shared across the district.

The celebration was a great success and will certainly remain a memorable occasion for all who attended. Special appreciation goes to the Mutare District COS Committee, the organisers, and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event a success.

Indeed, it was a day of celebration, fellowship and thanksgiving—an occasion to remember!

Happy birthday DS Joseph Charinge.

MEMBERSHIP CONTINUES TO GROW

Story and Pictures By Stanley Chirimbani

The United Methodist Church (UMC) in Mutare District has recorded encouraging growth in membership and ministry despite the country's prevailing economic challenges, with church leaders describing the denomination as vibrant and steadily expanding.

Speaking on the sidelines of the recently concluded St Peter's Innercity 2026 Charge Conference, the last charge conference for the district this year, Mutare District Superintendent Reverend Joseph Charinge said the church continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience, commitment, and spiritual growth.

Rev Charinge said membership figures from the district's circuits reflected a positive trend, with many congregations welcoming significant numbers of new members during the year.

"There has been a noticeable increase in church membership across our circuits. Many have recorded at least 20 new members, while others have welcomed 51, 81 and even 91 new members. This is a clear indication that the church is alive and forging ahead despite the economic challenges our people are facing," he said.

He noted that the charge conferences attracted people from all age groups, with children, youths, middle-aged adults and the elderly actively participating in worship, ministry and church programmes.

Rev Charinge praised members for their unwavering commitment, saying they continue to support the church through generous giving and dedicated service even during difficult economic times.

"The church remains strong because our members continue to serve faithfully and give sacrificially. Their commitment to God's work has enabled the church to continue growing and fulfilling its mission," he said.

The district also celebrated significant progress in infrastructure development during the conference, including the acquisition of vehicles to improve mobility for clergy and enhance pastoral outreach across the district.

Rev Charinge urged church leaders and members to remain hardworking and strive to improve their personal livelihoods while maintaining their commitment to God's work.
He also appealed to Christians across all denominations to continue praying for one another and to support the continued spread of the Gospel.

"As Christians, we must continue to pray for one another and remain united in advancing God's kingdom. Together we can strengthen the church and positively impact our communities," he said.

The Mutare District Charge Conferences concluded with renewed commitment to unity, active participation and the continued advancement of the church's mission, leaving members optimistic about the future despite the country's economic headwinds.
