📢 A Call to Prayer for Zimbabwe

Following Parliament's Second Reading of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3) yesterday, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches calls upon all citizens, churches, and people of goodwill to pray for our nation.

Legislators are expected to begin debating the Bill today, after considering the Second Reading presentation and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee report. As this important constitutional process unfolds, we encourage Zimbabweans to remain informed, engaged, and prayerful.

As people of faith, we are reminded that leadership is a sacred trust and that the pursuit of justice, accountability, and the common good requires both active citizenship and prayerful reflection.

Let us pray that:
- Our leaders will act with wisdom, integrity, and humility;
- Decisions made will uphold justice, accountability, and the dignity of all people;
- Zimbabwe will continue to pursue unity, peace, dialogue, and the common good.

May God guide our nation during this important moment in its democratic journey.

Hwange Diocese SOCCOM Holds AI-Focused Capacity Building Workshop

The Social Communications Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Hwange held a capacity building workshop at St. Ignatius of Loyola Cathedral on 29 May 2026.

Held under the theme “Embracing Artificial Intelligence in SOCCOM,” the workshop brought together members from Hwange Urban, Empumalanga, Victoria Falls, and Jambezi deaneries.

Participants presented reports on the current state of social communications in their parishes, missions, and deaneries. During the review sessions, they were encouraged to strengthen SOCCOM teams, work closely with parish pastoral councils and priests, and acquire basic equipment to support their work.

Following a presentation on Pope Leo XIV’s message for the 60th World Day of Social Communications and a summary of his encyclical, members were advised to use Artificial Intelligence positively and responsibly. The commission emphasized using AI for editing, refining content, proofreading, and other tasks in an ethical manner.

Interactive sessions allowed participants to ask questions and deepen their understanding of SOCCOM. The workshop also attracted new members from parishes that previously had no active SOCCOM representation.

As part of their action plans, parishes, missions, and deaneries were urged to establish clear structures and systems for SOCCOM work. Members were further encouraged to embrace SOCCOM as a vocation to be lived fully.

The workshop provided space for deeper reflection, dialogue, and the development of strategies to grow the commission across the diocese.
