Children from the Missionary Childhood Association, aged between 5 and 14 years, on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, paid an educational visit to the Marondera Magistrates’ Court to gain a deeper understanding of Zimbabwean laws, the justice system, and how courts operate.

The young visitors were accompanied by their advisors, who organized the learning trip as part of helping children grow not only in faith but also in knowledge of society and civic responsibility.

During the visit, the children were introduced to various aspects of the legal system, including the roles of magistrates, lawyers, court officials, and the importance of following the law. They learned about different types of cases handled by the courts, such as criminal cases, family disputes, marriage and divorce matters, adoption processes, and cases involving abuse and child protection.

One of the highlights of the visit was a lively question-and-answer session where the children confidently asked important questions about prisons, crime, punishment, marriage laws, divorces, adoption procedures, and how people can seek justice when wronged. Court officials patiently responded, helping the children understand how the justice system protects people and maintains peace in society.

The children were also given the rare opportunity to sit inside an actual courtroom, where they became familiar with the courtroom setting and how proceedings are conducted. This practical experience made the learning more real and memorable.

In addition, they witnessed real-life court sessions involving actual cases, which showed them the seriousness of legal matters and the difference between what they hear in theory and what happens in reality. Observing these proceedings helped them appreciate the importance of honesty, discipline, and respect for the law.

The visit also inspired many of the young people to dream about future careers in the legal profession. Some expressed a strong desire to become judges, lawyers, and magistrates after seeing how justice is delivered and how legal professionals help people solve disputes and protect the innocent. For many, the experience opened their minds to career paths they had never seriously considered before.

At the end of the visit, the children had a special discussion session with the Magistrate, where they reflected on everything they had learned throughout the day. The Magistrate asked them questions to assess their understanding of the court system, laws, and the importance of justice in society. The children responded confidently, sharing what they had learned about crime, prisons, marriage laws, abuse cases, and the role of courts in protecting people. The Magistrate expressed happiness and pride in seeing such young children showing great interest in justice and civic education. The children were equally excited and grateful for the opportunity, saying the visit was both enjoyable and educational. The joyful interaction created a memorable ending, with both the Magistrate and the young visitors appreciating the value of the experience.

Such educational visits are important because they help children understand their rights and responsibilities from a young age. They also raise awareness about the consequences of crime and bad decisions while encouraging good citizenship and moral values. They also motivate children to work hard in school so they can pursue professional careers that serve society. By learning about justice early, children are better prepared to make responsible choices and contribute positively to their communities.

The visit left many of the young participants inspired, informed, and hopeful about the future, proving that learning can be both practical and impactful outside the classroom.
