When Jesus began to explain the ministry of John the Baptist, He gave John a description that is very rare to find. This is a sermon by God Himself, and He finds it necessary to suspend teaching on every other subject and take time to let the people know that John the Baptist was more than a prophet.
Remember that at this point, these people already knew of prophets in the past who had called down fire from heaven, and who had shut up the heavens for years. Despite all this, Jesus is insisting that John is more than a prophet.
The lesson there is that while all manner of spectacular displays of power can be made, the greatest level of prophecy that even transcends the prophetic, is when you reveal Jesus. That's what John did. When you have that desire for yourself to decrease and for Jesus to increase then you know, you are now behaving as more than a prophet.
