Follow the Principles

"And the Lord commended the unjust steward because he had acted wisely: for the children of this world are, in their generation, wiser than the children of light."
Luke 16:8

Sometimes, saved people act foolishly and unjustly, while wicked men act wisely, and the result is that the wicked are promoted while the saved suffer. Let me give you some very practical examples. You do not necessarily have to pray to get a job. If you study, get good grades, and apply for a job, you have a great possibility of getting one. You cannot just sleep and rely on prayer to get a job while you have no qualifications whatsoever for it.

It is true that God qualifies the unqualified, and there are cases where that is indeed necessary, but as I have said before, you should not wait for a miracle to feed your family. 2 Thessalonians 3:10–12 says, "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if anyone would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread."

Apostle Paul did not say these people should pray for food, but that they should work and eat their own bread. There are highly qualified people who are vendors, and then there are those with no qualifications whatsoever who are too proud to be seen vending, yet they are broke.

It is the responsibility of the church to straighten out people’s thinking. Biblical Christianity does not promote laziness or foolishness. You do not necessarily have to pray to get married—even unbelievers get married. If you soberly approach someone of the opposite s*x, you can get married.

Benson Idahosa used to say, "The greatest mistake preachers make is to lay hands on empty heads." You can be anointed, but if you do not use your mind and your hands, you will suffer. There is nothing in the Word that says you should not think. God gave you a brain—use it.

If a Christian does not sow seed on his farm but prays for a harvest, an unbeliever who does not know God will end up selling grain to him. Christianity did not come to take away your physical responsibilities in life. Hard work and smart work still bring results.

You may not find a scripture that tells you to brush your teeth, but God gave you a brain. Use it. Praying for a husband or wife and then behaving foolishly will not get you anywhere. You can even marry Saint Peter or Saint Mary and still divorce if you think wrongly.

You can be broke even if you fast six days a week and pray ten hours daily. Genesis 8:22 says, "While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease." God is showing us that life is governed (though not limited) by principles, not just miracles.

NOT LUCK

"But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come... For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe."
— 1 Timothy 4:7–8,10

There is a saying: “All success is by luck—ask any failure.” In other words, only failures believe that success comes by luck.

I enjoy reading biographies and success stories, and I can testify that success does not just fall on people. Consider Apostle Paul as an example. His success was not a matter of luck. The man exercised himself, trained himself, and laboured greatly to reach the position where he stands admired by many today.

In 1 Corinthians 14:18, he said:
"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all."
In other words, he openly acknowledged his strong prayer life. When it came to prayer—especially praying in the Spirit—Apostle Paul was disciplined. He devoted more time to it than anyone else he knew.

So no, success is not by luck. There are principles which, when followed, can make anyone successful.

There is another saying: “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.” Simply wishing for success has never made anyone successful. When you study the life of Apostle Paul, you will discover that his success was not just a gift. Although there was great grace upon his life, he still declared that he laboured more than the other apostles.

I have also observed that many wealthy people work harder than those who are poor. However, hard work alone does not automatically guarantee success.

Paul himself spent about 24 months in prison, even after performing miracles. He was whipped many times, yet he kept moving forward. (Read 1 Corinthians 9 and 2 Corinthians 11.)

There were specific things Paul practiced that led to his triumph. For example, Benson Idahosa was once a baggage carrier, yet he rose to become a powerful voice recognized around the world.

Success is like an equation: you cannot have only one variable and expect greatness. Prayer alone did not make Apostle Paul great. After prayer, he also valued learning. In 2 Timothy 4:13, he wrote:
"When thou comest, bring with thee the books, but especially the parchments."

He prayed, but he was also studious.

In 1 Thessalonians 2:9, he said:
"For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day… we preached unto you the gospel of God."

When we speak of grace, we do not mean that things will simply fall into our laps like ripe cherries. Apostle Paul said:

"But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me."
— 1 Corinthians 15:10

Paul connected grace with labour. In 2 Corinthians 6:1, he also wrote:

"We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain."

So do not just wish or pray for success. You need facts to make fate. It will help you greatly not to believe in luck, but in God’s principles for success.

Life Choices

"And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it."
Colossians 4:17

Very early in my life, I was presented with some very attractive offers which I turned down. I knew without a shadow of doubt that those attractive and amazing offers were not God's will for me. Years have passed, and I am still grateful to God that I chose the leading of the Spirit.

There are people who do not care an inch about fulfilling God's purpose for them. Once they see what looks like an opportunity, they jump into it without ever asking if it helps them fulfil their purpose in God. Sometimes you have to choose between more money and following God's will. Anything that comes to you and does not help you fulfil God's will for your life is a distraction.

In Matthew 19:29 the Lord Jesus said:
"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."

What matters most in life is following God's will and fulfilling your purpose. You may never be a billionaire, but you can live a fulfilled life if you follow God's will. Set your heart on the things of eternal value.

Lot was asked by Abraham to choose the land he would take. Lot looked with the eyes of the flesh and saw how attractive S***m was, so he chose that land—and you know how he ended up living in a cave.

Why are you choosing A over B? Your choice can take you closer to God or further away from Him.

God will not call you into something that will hurt you. He knows what is best for you more than you know. He is more ambitious for your success than you will ever be. His dream for you is better than any dream you can have for yourself.

If God sends you from a city to a village, trust Him. He knows how to take care of you. Faith rests in God. If God sends me somewhere, then there is surely provision there. There is provision for every God-given vision.

Choose wisely. Choose God and His Word. Choose a life of faith. When you make friends, choose a marriage partner, or select a career, always look at how it will help you fulfil God's purpose.

Christ Your Health

"But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."
— Romans 8:11

Christianity is not only about doing good and helping the poor. Jesus Christ spent much of His time doing two things: healing the sick and teaching. If people are not healed in our midst, then we are not walking as Jesus walked. Being spiritual is not just a matter of morality; there is supernatural power given to believers, enabling them to live above the limitations of this world.

For example, if someone were involved in an accident and lost their limbs, hearing, or sight, the Spirit of God within them has the power to make them whole. Remember this: the Word of God works by faith.

In John 11:40, the Lord Jesus said to Martha:
"Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?"

If you believe, you will see the glory of God. We are believers; therefore, in our daily lives we are to walk by faith if we want to see God's glory. Faith, however, is not just an idea; it is a product of hearing the Word of God.

In these times, keep the following scriptures in your memory. Meditate on them, speak them, and walk in them. Refuse to panic.

1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Psalm 91:7, 10–11
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Meditate on these things—life is at work in you. Practice good hygiene, but do not be enslaved by fear. Jesus laid hands on lepers; He healed them—He did not catch their disease. The life in us destroys sickness and viruses. However, we must not be foolish or ignorant.

Practice 1 Corinthians 11:23–27 more often. Remind yourself that His (Jesus’) body was broken so that you may not be broken.

ABILITY UNDER INTELLIGENT CONTROL

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you..." — Acts 1:8

Shall we receive power simply to shake and fall? I once taught some high school students at a public seminar, and I remember saying something to them by the Holy Spirit: It is only ability under intelligent control that has commercial value.

Everyone in the world has some special abilities. This includes even some people who are considered disabled. However, there are also those who are bound by evil spirits and born with severe physical dysfunction, and such people need deliverance and the life of Jesus within them to live victoriously.

But the average human being is born with special abilities—whether saved or unsaved, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or from any other background. God has deposited in each of us unique abilities through which we can bless the world around us and remain relevant to both our generation and generations to come.

I have discovered that only those who discover their God-given abilities and develop them are the ones who truly succeed.

Many Christians label people who have accomplished great things in the world as failures simply because they were not Christians. The truth is that they may have failed in the most important matter—the salvation of their soul—but they still succeeded in the world.

Jesus said:
"What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" — Matthew 16:26

While we recognize that the most important part of a person is their spirit, we must not ignore success in the physical world where we live right now. Some people are very rich spiritually, yet their spiritual riches are never seen manifested in the physical world. This is a great error in the church today.

In Matthew 25:14–30, Jesus gave the parable of the talents and spoke against the unprofitable servant. All the servants were given talents, but some chose to do nothing with what they were given.

Jesus used examples from the physical realm, suggesting that we can apply this parable practically. Now that we are born again, the very ability of Christ Jesus has been given to us. What we do with that ability is our responsibility.

I have seen many people who can sing better than those we hear on the radio, yet they only sing in the bathroom and never discipline themselves to record or develop their gift.

My brother once told me about a man in our village who runs so fast that he might challenge Usain Bolt, yet he has never trained his athletic ability for professional use. Instead, he simply runs while chasing baboons with his bare hands.

The same was once true of Mike Tyson. He fought constantly in the streets until Don King discovered him, cleaned him up, and trained him for professional boxing. Without that guidance, Tyson might have remained unknown despite his incredible talent.

To those who sing in the choir: you are always buying songs from Sinach—when will we buy yours?
Young man playing the keyboard like Frank Edwards, when will we hear your own music?

Years ago, people in my neighborhood called me Pastor Chris, but I am not Chris Oyakhilome. I am Pastor Albert, applying the principles I learned and impacting lives.

It is not dressing like someone that will make you impact the world. It is exercising your abilities the way they exercised theirs.

Jesus said, “Follow Me.”
Paul said, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.”

Young people, rise up and exercise your abilities. The world is waiting for people who will improve lives and provide solutions.

Do not become a liability in the world.
Do not simply consume what others have created.

Think about it:
The phone you are using was someone’s idea.
The light bulb came from Thomas Edison.
Someone designed the clothes you are wearing.
Someone invented the car you drive.

But what about you?
What idea have you produced that benefits the world?

It would be a shame if all you are is merely a consumer of other people’s ideas. The world is waiting for what God has placed inside you.

Peace Through Jesus Christ

"I've told you all this so that trusting Me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world, you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world."
— John 16:33 (MSG)

How can you have peace in the midst of storms? It is only when you have information that guarantees you victory. In other words, faith is a product of knowledge. No matter what is happening around you, if you know that the Father is not only with you but also in you, you will remain at peace.

Being long-faced because you are facing challenges is a testimony of unbelief. If you truly know that all things are working together for your good, it will not matter what happens—you will remain unshakable, assured, and deeply at peace.

I do not panic like the world because I am not of this world. John 3:31 says:
"He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all."

I do not speak or think ordinarily because I am from above. I do not catch the flu—I overcome it. If my heart were not beating properly, instead of panicking I would command it to normalize. Those who panic are without solutions, and Jesus never panicked.

When He heard that Lazarus was dead, He remained calm. John 11:14–15 says:
"Then Jesus told them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."

The Lord Jesus was at peace. He said, “I am glad I was not there.” He was not glad that Lazarus died—God is not pleased with the death of our loved ones—but He is always ready to step into our difficult moments. God makes crooked ways straight. Therefore, if something bends or breaks, it can be straightened in God. This is why we can have peace in all circumstances.

The fact that you do not have money in your pocket does not justify worry. Remember that at the word of Jesus, Peter brought money out of a fish’s mouth. God can sustain you for the whole year with what seems like very little.

Do not say you have nothing when you have a seed and God. Moses said he only had a rod, though it looked insignificant.

Relax in God. Fear not. Rejoice and be glad.
Miracles are wrought in an atmosphere of faith.

Ready or Not Ready

"..Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
— Acts 16:30–31

I once called a friend in the middle of the night and pranked him with these words:
"Sir, the rapture has happened, and you being on the call with me means you have been left behind too."

I laughed hard at the panic in his voice on the other end of the line. But one day, this will not be a prank. The rapture will happen. Some people will go, and some will be left behind. Surely, you would not want to be among those who are left behind.

What, therefore, should you do to prepare yourself and those around you for the rapture?

Firstly, you must truly be saved. You may belong to a religious group, but that does not save you. You may carry great titles and be highly respected, but if you are not saved, then you are not rapture-ready.

Our opening scripture gives us light on how one can be saved. You are not saved because you do more good than bad. You are saved through faith in Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9–10 says:
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

This is the very first step in preparing for the rapture: you must believe in Jesus Christ. That means hearing the message of Jesus Christ, believing it, and accepting Him as Lord of your life.

What then is the message?

In summary, it is this:
Man sinned and was alienated from the life of God, but God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die and pay the penalty for man's sins. God raised Jesus from the dead and made Him Lord of all. God gives eternal life to everyone who believes in Jesus Christ and accepts His Lordship. That person becomes a child of God and is superior to Satan and all his works.

God has also made available to this born-again person the Holy Spirit, through whom they can live victoriously as they walk by faith in the Word.

This is my gospel.

We are saved not to live in unbelief the next day, but to walk in the light of our salvation. When this is done, you are ready for the rapture. But even if you are not ready, the rapture will still take place. The only difference will be that you will be left behind.

I do not have enough space to explain what life on earth will be like after the rapture.

Time to Get Up

"And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake Him, and say unto Him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
— Mark 4:37–39

Many people are relaxed even though they are sinking in life. Storms may rise against you on your job, in your marriage, finances, or business. You do not have to do anything wrong for storms to arise. How you respond to the storms will determine your place in this world.

The Bible shows us how Jesus responded to storms. He did not remain asleep in a false sense of faith. He arose, rebuked the wind, and said, “Peace, be still.” He did not panic, nor did He ask the Father to do anything on His behalf. Instead, He used His words to take authority over the circumstances.

In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." The Lord has given us the responsibility to address the mountains in our lives.

Instead of only asking God to calm the storm for us, we must rise and speak to the storms ourselves in the name of Jesus. To speak in the name of Jesus is to operate with the very authority of Jesus Christ.

The challenge begins when we do not truly believe this truth. James 1:6–7 says, "But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord."

We must speak from a place of understanding and conviction that the life and authority of Christ are working in us. As long as we fail to see ourselves in this light, we cannot be effective. This is why we must continually remind ourselves of our identity in Christ and reject every thought of inferiority so that we can stand boldly in faith.

As long as we view cancer, HIV, or any challenge we face as a greater giant than the power of Christ within us, we will struggle to exercise faith. True faith comes when we turn our attention away from our human limitations and focus on Jesus Christ.

You cannot view yourself as a powerless or prayerless Christian and still expect to operate in faith. When we entertain words of condemnation, they weaken our confidence and drown our stand in God.

Therefore, get up and speak to the storms of your life. Storms came even to Jesus, so it is not strange if they come against you. It is not wise to collapse in fear before the storm. In the midst of the storm you should declare, "Greater is He that is in me; nothing in this world is big enough to pull me down."

If it is cancer, you declare, "I command this cancer to die and come out of my body." After you have spoken, believe that the cancer is dead and continue to declare, "The cancer is dead." The symptoms may linger for a few hours or days, but keep your eyes fixed on the Word.

Tell yourself and those who stand with you in faith, "I killed the cancer." For we walk by faith, not by sight. You may not feel any electric charge in your hands, but you are clothed with power. Accept this reality and begin to make use of that power.

Be Calm and Cool

"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
— Philippians 4:6–8

No matter what is happening around you, maintain your composure. The Bible says, “Be anxious for nothing,” which means it is possible to remain calm even when things seem to be turning upside down. It is only when you are calm that you can deal with situations wisely and soberly.

Being calm, however, is not simply a matter of choice. It is the product of a mindset of confidence in God's ability to bring you through. The Bible tells us that Abraham was ready to offer Isaac as a sacrifice because he believed that God was able even to raise him from the dead. He was not anxious; he was confident in God.

Jesus also heard that His friend Lazarus was dead. He did not panic or rush around in confusion. Instead, He remained calm and acted in perfect confidence in the power of God.

There are people who turn red at the slightest sign of opposition. Refuse to be anxious. Even if you were fired from your job, remain calm and pray, making your requests known to God.

Doubt and a sense of doom make people anxious. But the fact that something bad has happened does not mean that the story has ended. You will not see God manifest in a place of anxiety. It is through faith that we tap into God’s provision for us.

There is more than enough power available to pull you out of any ditch, but you must trust God and His ability at work in you. Remind yourself that the Greater One lives in you.

Sometimes it may seem like everything around you is falling apart. Your situation may even appear to be getting worse. Even then, refuse to be anxious. At such times, speak your faith and remind yourself of who you are and what you can do in Christ.

The enemy may scream unbelief into your ears, but ignore every word of defeat. Train yourself to see the invisible. Do not picture defeat—see yourself winning, and begin to speak the picture you see.

Anxiety can harm your body and mind. It can even lead to sickness. The Word of God is practical—even scientific in its wisdom. When you apply it, you will see results.

Understanding Faith

"And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come near unto him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee."
Mark 2:3–5

The Bible says, “For without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6), which makes faith a very important subject. James 1:6–7 also says:

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”

This means that all the free gifts of God are inaccessible without faith. There is no guarantee of receiving anything from God without it. Salvation is free, but it is obtained through faith. The same applies to healing, prosperity, and every other blessing from God.

Faith is not merely a concept or a religious idea; faith is a spiritual force that empowers a man to walk in divine realities.

Faith is only truly faith when it produces action. Faith is a practical step. Faith can be seen, and faith can be heard. Faith is both violent and restful. Faith tears the roof off a house to get results.

Many people are praying and simply waiting for things to happen, but faith moves, faith acts. Faith is not passive; faith is aggressive. Faith refuses to accept “no” when it contradicts the Word of God. Faith endorses the Word as the only truth.

Faith changes facts. For example, you cannot hold on to two opposing messages—one that says you are sick and another that declares, “By His stripes you are healed.” You cannot believe in life while expecting death.

Faith can be demonstrated. Our opening verse says that Jesus saw their faith.

Faith raises the dead.
Faith moves mountains.
Faith shuts the mouths of lions.
Faith cancels disease.
Faith starts companies.
Faith gets you a job.
Faith builds you a home.

Hoping and wishing do not do these things, but faith turns the tables against the adversary.

What you need to access the blessings of God is faith. The Bible says you already have faith, but it is not enough to merely have it—you must understand what it is and how it works.

Through faith, the barren become fruitful, the poor become rich, and the sick become healers. Faith is the power that transforms. Faith enables a man to operate like God.

Through faith, you can live in victory.
