📢 DID YOU KNOW?

Parliament resumes sitting today, Tuesday 2 June 2026, and the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill (CAB3) is expected to be introduced for its First Reading.

This marks the beginning of the Bill's formal consideration by Parliament before it proceeds through subsequent stages of debate.

As discussions on CAB3 continue, it remains important for citizens to stay informed, follow parliamentary proceedings, and engage with issues that have significant implications for constitutional governance, democracy, and the future of Zimbabwe.

Let us continue to engage our Members of Parliament to help inform Parliamentary debates. Remember to pray for our leaders for wisdom, integrity, and sound judgement as they deliberate on this important conversation. “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” - Jeremiah 29:7

Today, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) joins the continent in celebrating Africa’s rich heritage, diversity, resilience, and shared future.

As an ecumenical body, we celebrate the spirit of unity, solidarity, and fellowship across denominations and borders, recognising that together we can contribute to an Africa marked by peace, justice, dignity, and shared prosperity.

As we commemorate Africa Day 2026, we reflect on this year’s continental call to ensure sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems for all, recognising access to clean water and dignified sanitation as essential to health, justice, human dignity, and flourishing communities. This call builds on the momentum of last year’s focus on justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations, reminding us that true reparative justice also requires addressing systemic inequalities that continue to limit access to life-sustaining resources and opportunities.

We further acknowledge the African Union’s declaration of 2026 - 2036 as the Decade of Reparative Justice for Africans and People of African Descent, a renewed continental commitment to healing historical injustices, restoring dignity, and advancing equitable and inclusive development for all.

May we continue building bridges of peace and working together for the Africa we want - united, peaceful, just, and flourishing.

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”- Ephesians 4:3

Day 2 at the Continental Round Table on Ecological and Economic Justice Policy Advocacy | Accra, Ghana.

Today, the 20th of May 2026, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) General Secretary Rev. Wilfred Dimingu participated in a panel discussion on “Mapping the Debt Burden in Africa”, alongside representatives from Liberia, Namibia, Tanzania, and Burundi.

Drawing from the Zimbabwean context, Rev Dimingu reflected on the realities of Africa’s debt crisis and its implications for public services, economic justice, and community wellbeing, while calling for sustainable and people-centred responses to debt vulnerabilities.

Key reflections from his presentation included:
▪️ Strengthening transparency and accountability in public finance management to ensure debt serves national development priorities.
▪️ Promoting responsible and sustainable debt management that protects social service delivery and safeguards vulnerable communities.

As faith actors continue engaging in ecological and economic justice conversations, ZCC remains committed to amplifying prophetic voices for sustainable and just development.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” - Proverbs 31:8

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) is joining other faith actors from across Africa at the Continental Round Table on Ecological and Economic Justice Policy Advocacy convened by the All-Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) in Accra, Ghana, under the theme “Aligning Faith-Based Advocacy with the Changing Ecological and Economic Development Landscape.”

The convening brings together faith leaders and experts to strengthen action on climate justice, debt sustainability, tax justice, and ethical economic governance amid Africa’s growing ecological and economic challenges. Over the next 3 days, ZCC will contribute to key sessions including reflections on Africa’s debt burden, ecological crisis and climate resilience, and discussions on unjust tax regimes and illicit financial flows affecting development financing.

During the devotion session, delegates prayed for peace and healing across the continent and beyond, including South Sudan, Sudan, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and other conflict-affected regions in Africa, as well as for an end to ongoing wars in countries such as Iran and Ukraine, led by our General Secretary, Rev. Wilfred Dimingu.

The ZCC remains committed to advancing justice, amplifying community voices, and promoting ethical governance for sustainable development.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), together with 28 organizations from across the Global South, has joined a collective call for urgent and just action on the global sovereign debt crisis.

“Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; to turn aside the needy from judgment” - Isaiah 10:1-2

Ahead of the Global Partnerships Conference, which is an international platform bringing together governments, financial institutions and global partners to discuss development financing and economic challenges, we have called for the global debt crisis to be prioritized. Why does this matter? Because when countries spend more money repaying debt, fewer resources remain for hospitals, schools, social protection, jobs and other essential public services that communities rely on every day. As the Church, we remain deeply concerned that rising debt burdens continue to limit governments’ ability to invest in essential public services, with the greatest impact felt by vulnerable communities.

Through a joint letter addressed to the conference co-hosts, we are calling for the following:

- Fair and transparent debt restructuring processes that prioritize people and development needs.
- Meaningful and comprehensive debt relief for countries facing unsustainable debt burdens.
- Reform of the global financial architecture to prevent recurring cycles of debt distress.
- Accountability and fairness from lenders and borrowers to ensure responsible lending and borrowing practices.
- Prioritization of social spending so that debt repayments do not undermine essential public services

Debt justice is a moral justice issue and communities should not be forced to carry the burden of systems that deepen poverty and inequality.

Last week, the Economic Justice Network (EJN) of FOCCISA (Fellowship of Christian Councils in Southern Africa) convened a Post-Reflection and Strategy Meeting on the Alternative Mining Indaba (AMI) 2026 with National Councils of Churches across the region.

The meeting reflected on key outcomes from AMI 2026 and explored how faith actors can strengthen coordinated engagement ahead of the AMI General Assembly and AMI 2027 process.

Participants reflected on the need for faith leaders to strengthen their engagement in the AMI space originally initiated by faith actors 17 years ago as a platform to walk alongside mining-affected communities in their struggles for land, water, livelihoods, health, and existence.

Key recommendations emerging from the meeting included:
- Faith leaders must strengthen prophetic witness and moral leadership on extractives and economic justice
- National Councils of Churches should translate the AMI Declaration into practical national action plans
- Churches need to deepen solidarity and accompaniment with mining-affected communities
- Faith actors should strengthen pre-AMI caucuses and national Mining Indaba platforms
- NCCs must invest in knowledge building, communication and public awareness on mining justice issues
- Greater collaboration is needed between faith institutions, communities, climate justice movements, and regional networks
- Churches should promote eco-theology, stewardship of creation, healing, and reconciliation in mining communities
- Faith actors must sustain visibility and coordinated advocacy beyond AMI gatherings

Participants emphasized that AMI is not just an event, but a movement where faith, justice, and communities converge to challenge unjust extractive systems and advocate for dignity, land, water, livelihoods, and community rights.
