Today's exhortation is on Prayer
James 5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. NKJV
We see that James tell us that we are in every manner just like Elijah. But what made the author of this epistle to focus specifically on Elijah? If we go to the book of 1 Kings 18 from verse 41 we see the level and the stamina of prayer in Elijah. Its amazing, he put his head between his knees and prayed.
We see that Elijah was a prayerful person - in this instance, he was praying for the rain to come.
He prayed and sent his servant to go and check whether there was any sound of rain. The servant went and, on the first account, brought a message that there was nothing. Elijah did not depart from his stance of prayer; his position and stamina of prayer remained steadfast. He again sent the servant the second time to check, and the answer was the same even in the second instance. The third time up to the sixth time, the answer remained the same and yet Elijah continued in prayer all the same. He did not give up on this prayer position.
How many times have you prayed for something, and you have given up so easily? On the first sign that it looked like nothing had happened, you quickly gave up. Well, brethren, I would like you to know that Elijah continued to pray
Now when James said he was a man like us, it implies that he too had his insecurities, his fears, his worries and concerns - but there is this one thing he was able to do pray and you too can pray.
Right on the seventh time, there was a small cloud like that of a man's hand, and immediately, we see a man filled with faith at the very sight of the small cloud; he understood that it was the rain. sometimes God is doing something for you, and it starts as small as a man's hand, and immediately you are doubting
The exhortation is that you ought to pray even if it seems like there is no answer, continue praying and don't give up on prayer.
