The ZRP has confirmed that eight people di€d in a road accident that happened today at around 0500 hours at the 110 km peg along the Gokwe–Kwekwe Road, towards Kwekwe. A Trip Trans bus carrying 36 passengers attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a haulage truck.

UPDATE | The Stallion Cruise Bus driver who was caught on camera driving while watching a video has been arrested.

Lordsher Mushipe (46), from Gweru, was filmed using a cellphone while driving, and the video later went viral on social media. He is now in custody at Mbare Police Station and is expected to spend Independence Day there.

He is facing charges under the Road Traffic Regulations for using a cellphone while driving. The incident took place along the Harare–Bulawayo Road. Source: H-Metro

PRESIDENT DECLARES STATE OF DISASTER AFTER CHIPANGALI ROAD TRAGEDY

The devastating road accident on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road has left about 18 people feared dead. Government has declared a state of disaster as investigations continue.

President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has since declared the incident a state of disaster, with Government moving to coordinate emergency response efforts and support for bereaved families.
