Praying in the name of Jesus
John 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
Prayer time is very important and how you pray is also important. What you say in prayer is very important. Don't pray too fast if you are praying in the language of man because often times l have heard prayers that don't make sense.
In John 16 Jesus is changing the way his disciples prayed. when you read Luke 11 one of his disciples ask him to teach them to pray as John taught his disciples. The master taught them what is now commonly known as the Lord's prayer. Now let's go back to the gospel of John. Jesus knew the spiritual dynamics which would happen after he dies on the cross. Jesus did not want his disciples to pray that way after he had died
We are to pray to the father in the name of Jesus. We don't pray to Jesus. in Acts 3:6 Peter commanded the lame man to get up and walk in the name of Jesus. When people gathered around were amazed at this miracle he said it was not by righteous nor holiness that made him whole. The priests threatened them not to use the name again but over in the 4th chapter when they were in their own company they prayed. Acts 4:23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 4:24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: 4:25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, 4:28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. 4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 4:30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Pay special attention to verse 30 the name of Jesus is in that prayer and in verse 31 the place they were was shaken because of that prayer!! what was the result Acts 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 5:13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 5:14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 5:16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed everyone.
As they asked in their prayer it was done unto them
