*Voices That Speak To You – And How To React*

Preaching By Tazviona Sungirayi

📖 John 10:27 – “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

Every believer must discern the voices they hear in life. Some voices lead to life, others to destruction. Your destiny depends on the voice you choose to obey.

1. The Voice of God

How He Speaks: Through His Word, preaching, prayer, impressions in the Spirit, visions, dreams, and prophecy.

📖 Isaiah 30:21 – “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
Isaiah 30:31 For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod.
📖 Hebrews 1:1–2 – “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son…”

Example: Samuel heard God’s voice as a boy and responded, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10). His obedience made him a great prophet.

Effect: Brings direction, life, protection, and blessings.

*The safest place in life is under the voice of God.*

2. The Voice of a Shepherd (Pastor)

📖 Jeremiah 3:15 – “I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
📖 Hebrews 13:17 – “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls…”

Example: The Ethiopian eu**ch listened to Philip’s guidance and found salvation (Acts 8:30–38).

Effect: Brings spiritual growth, guidance, and covering.

*To reject the voice of your shepherd is to reject the God who sent him.*

3. The Voice of Parents

📖 Ephesians 6:1–3 – “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’… so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
📖 Proverbs 1:8 – “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”

Example: Jonathan respected his father Saul, but he discerned Saul’s jealousy against David (1 Samuel 20).

Effect: Obedience brings long life and blessings, but blind obedience against God’s will can cause destruction.

*Parents are voices of wisdom, but God’s Word is the final authority.*

4. The Voice of Wise Advisors

📖 Proverbs 11:14 – “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”
📖 Proverbs 15:22 – “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.”

Example: Jethro advised Moses to appoint leaders, and Israel’s governance improved (Exodus 18:17–24).

Effect: Provides perspective, safety, and solutions.

*A wise voice can save you years of struggle.*

5. The Voice of Gossip

📖 Proverbs 16:28 – “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”
📖 2 Thessalonians 3:11–12 – “We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.”

Example: The murmuring of Israelites against Moses brought God’s judgment (Numbers 14:2–4, 29).

Effect: Destroys unity, weakens faith, manipulates emotions. Gossip is like spiritual witchcraft — it works through words to control, divide, and destroy.

*Gossip is the devil’s microphone—never lend your ears to it.*

6. The Voice That Diverts You from Good Ways

📖 Genesis 3:1–6 – Eve listened to the serpent and lost Eden.
📖 Proverbs 14:12 – “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”

Example: Samson listened to Delilah and lost his strength, eyes, and destiny (Judges 16:18–21).

Effect: Leads to compromise, sin, and destruction.

*One wrong voice can cancel your God-given destiny.*

7. The Voice of Self

📖 Proverbs 14:12 – “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
📖 Luke 15:17–18 – “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘I will set out and go back to my father…’”

Explanation:
Your own voice can either mislead you through pride, selfish desires, and wrong decisions — or lead you to greatness when aligned with God’s Word.

Example (Negative): The rich fool said to himself, “Soul, you have many goods laid up… take life easy” (Luke 12:19), but that night his soul was required of him.
Example (Positive): The prodigal son spoke to himself and returned home, which led to restoration.

Effect: When aligned with God, self-talk can propel you higher; when misaligned, it can destroy you.

*The loudest voice you will hear daily is your own — train it to agree with God.*

8. The Voice of Satan

📖 Matthew 4:5–6 – “Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. ‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down…’”
📖 John 8:44 – “He was a murderer from the beginning… for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Example: Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, but Jesus overcame by quoting the Word (Matthew 4:1–11).

Effect: Leads to deception, sin, and destruction if entertained.

*The only language Satan fears is “It is written.” Answer him with the Word.*

9. The Voice of Children

📖 Psalm 8:2 – “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”
📖 1 Timothy 4:12 – “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers…”

Explanation:
Children can sometimes become prophetic voices of truth, especially when God uses them. At times, when parents lose direction, children who have risen financially or spiritually may influence decisions.

Example: Jesus, at age 12, amazed the teachers in the temple with His wisdom (Luke 2:46–47). Sometimes the younger generation sees what the older is blind to.

Effect: Can be a blessing when Spirit-led, but can also mislead if parents abdicate responsibility without discernment.

*Never despise the voice of children — God can speak through them to correct, inspire, or guide.*

10. Four More Negative Voices

(a) The Voice of Fear

📖 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
📖 Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”

Example: Israel feared Goliath and stayed defeated until David rose in faith (1 Samuel 17:11, 24).

*Fear silences destiny, but faith releases victory.*

(b) The Voice of Doubt/Unbelief

📖 James 1:6–7 – “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea…”
📖 Mark 9:23–24 – “Everything is possible for one who believes… I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Example: Thomas doubted Christ’s resurrection (John 20:24–29).

*Doubt delays miracles; faith attracts them.*

© The Voice of Temptation

📖 James 1:14–15 – “Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin…”

Example: Judas listened to Satan’s whisper and betrayed Jesus (Luke 22:3–6).

*The devil tempts with whispers but destroys with consequences.*

(c) The Voice of the Flesh

📖 Romans 8:6 – “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
📖 Galatians 5:17 – “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.”

Example: Esau sold his birthright for food because he listened to his appetite (Genesis 25:29–34).

*The flesh shouts loud, but the Spirit leads to life.*

Conclusion

Every day, many voices compete for your attention. But only God’s voice leads to life.

📖 Deuteronomy 30:19 – “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

👉 Choose carefully which voice you follow—it determines your destiny.
