📖 Scripture:
KJV Hebrews 9:21-22
21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
✍🏿 Commentary:
"The cleansing, both in the typical and real service, must be accomplished with blood: in the former, with the blood of animals; in the latter, with the blood of Christ. Paul states, as the reason why this cleansing must be performed with blood, that without shedding of blood is no remission. Remission, or putting away of sin, is the work to be accomplished... .",_ The Great Controversy page 417, 418.
Every animal sacrifice done in the earthly sanctuary service sympolized Jesus' death for the forgiveness of our sins. This reveals the following truths:
1️⃣ God's judgment of sin_*. Sin is rebellion against God and He does not ignore it. "The wages of sin is death", Rom. 6:23
2️⃣ Christ's substitutionary death._*
Christ took upon Himself the sins of all humanity and He died because of our sins.
3️⃣ God provides the atoning sacrifice._*
God send Christ to be the ultimate sacrifice that through His blood, shed once and for all, each repentant sinner has remission.
"On the cross the penalty for human sin was fully paid. Divine justice was satisfied. From a legal perspective the world was restored to favor with God (Rom. 5:18). The atonement, or reconciliation, was completed on the cross as foreshadowed by the sacrifices, and the penitent believer can trust in the finished work of our Lord.", Holbrook, "Light in the Shadows".
🙏🏿Prayer:
Thank you God for revealing to us the seriousness of sin. As Christians, may our lives reflect the reality that you hate sin and do not let it go unpunished. Thank you for Jesus Christ the utimate sacrifice (taught by the animal sacrifices in the earthly sanctuary services). Through him (the merits of His blood shed) we, repentant sinners, all have opportunity to receive salvation. May we not waste this opportunity. Amen.🙏🏿
