PREPARE YOURSELF, BE PRAYERFUL AND WATCHFUL

Matthew 24:35-37
35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 36 But no one knows the day or the hour. No! Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows."
37 “When the Son of Man comes, it will be the same as when Noah lived.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2
"Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you. For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night."

2 Peter 3:10
"But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare."

It is important that we be reminded that we are not on the earth forever and our life on earth is only a part of a whole existence.

The Lord through inspiration of His Apostles in the New Testament spoke these things so that we are not caught unprepared but live our lives knowing that any time one may be called home and if not, there is still the coming of the Lord to take His bride, the Church home.

The Word of God can not pass away even though heaven and earth will pass away.
We see in the above scripture in Matthew 24:35, the Lord says His words will not pass away.
He says no one knows the day or the hour that Christ, the Son will come. Not even the angels, but the Father alone.

It will be like in the days of Noah when he pleaded with the people to repent and he built the ark under God's instruction.
The people however would not give heed and continued to party, marry and make merry.

The reality struck when it was to late when the rain came down in torrents and they could not enter the ark as it was to late, God had shut the door.

The two additional scriptures in
1Thessalonians 5:1-2 and 2 Peter 3:10, also sound the alert that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Now is the time while we still have the chance for us to prepare ourselves to be ready by being prayerful and watchful, keeping ourselves unstained by the world and our heads anointed with oil.

Do not be entangled in the world for you will perish with the world.
We are in this world but not of the world.

Fix your eyes on Christ and forsake all worldliness.
Seek the Lord while He still may be found.

The warning has been sounded, let's not be found wanting and lost.

MAKE STRAIGHT PATHS FOR YOUR FEET

Hebrews 12:13 (KJV)
"And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed."

The [original] Greek Word in Hebrews 12:13 is ORTHOS - Meaning: Straight, erect, right, or standing upright.

In life there are chances that we don't get it right the first time.
We find ourselves on a crooked path and our life going from bad to worse. Wrong choices, bad judgement, careless mistakes or corrupt influence.

But it does not need to end that way. There is always the opportunity to correct things. A second chance to rectify things.

This is why the Word of God in Hebrews 12:13 serves to remind us that it takes a decision to stop and turn things around by refusing to continue along a crooked path of destruction.

We are told to make straight paths for our feet so that whatever is dislocated may be healed rather than cause permanent damage. Identify the problem and deal with it.

It means to remove obstacles and choose a clear, honest, and disciplined way of living so you do not stumble or fall into sin. Break the bad habits and take action not to fall into a trap once again so as to make your life journey safe and steady.

Flee temptation and sin; seek after righteousness and holiness and your life will make a turnaround; and success, peace and joy will be your portion.

WAIT UPON THE LORD

Psalm 27:14
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

WAIT UPON THE LORD, is a statement often used to encourage believers in various situations or circumstances.

It may be in relation to receiving direction and focus, renewed strength, undergoing trials & hardships, receiving revelation, getting confirmation or affirmation - all expected to come from the Lord as you WAIT.

Most importantly is to know HOW TO WAIT AND WHEN TO MOVE.

Let's look into that briefly so that you effectively WAIT UPON THE LORD, and at the end of it all you are content and empowered to move on.

The HEBREW word for “wait upon” or in the NIV translation “hope in” - QAVAH - meaning, to bind together, twist, or eagerly expect; originally to “bind up with”. This means we make a deliberate choice to bind up with the Lord, to fasten ourselves to Him as the greatest source of strength and the source of all our blessings.

The Greek word is
PROSDECHOMAI, meaning to receive to oneself, welcome, or wait for with eager expectation and a receptive heart.

Biblical Meaning:
In the Bible, "waiting upon the Lord" is not a passive standing by or doing nothing. It means actively trusting, hoping, and looking to God with great expectation. It is an ongoing choice to rely on His strength, timing, and goodness instead of your own.

To wait patiently on the Lord means to trust His timing without giving in to worry.

Therefore as you are in a place of WAITING UPON THE LORD, practice the following:

- - PRAY without ceasing:
Keep the communion with the Lord going.
- - READ the Bible: Renew your mind with God's truth and past promises.
- - WORSHIP: Praise God in every circumstance, with a joyful heart.
- - GIVE THANKS: Thank God in advance for what He is going to do and be expectant.

Additional Bible Verses to Wait Upon The Lord:

Isaiah 40:31
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (ESV)

Lamentations 3:25
“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” (ESV)

Isaiah 30:18
“Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.” (ESV)

Psalm 33:20-22
“Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.”(ESV)

Psalm 62:5
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” (ESV)

BE STRONG IN THE LORD AND IN THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT

Ephesians 6:10-12 NKJV
(The Whole Armour of God)
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places".

The one thing we are clear about is that God is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent. (All- knowing, all-powerful, all- present)

With that in mind, we read in the above verses of scripture that we are to "be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might."
We can rely totally on the Lord for any battle we may face, for He alone bears all knowledge, all power and is present everywhere to be able to empower us to overcome any battle, and even the devil whose schemes we must overthrow.

We cannot rely on our own ability for we will fail, for our knowledge, power and strength is limited, and we are present in one place only at any given time.

Now note that our anchor verse is placed together with the instructions on spiritual warfare.
The verse starts with "Finally", meaning when all is said and done, taking into account what has been noted (in the preceding verses and the verses following), in all things let your strength be rooted in Christ, for His strength is limitless and His might
goes unchallenged.

Additionally, note that we are to equip ourselves with the "whole armour" of God to be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We cannot go in the flesh, or in our own stead, and expect to win.

Lastly, in verse 12, we see why it is important to totally depend on the strength of the Lord and the power of His might. The reason is that we do not fight against an ordinary flesh and blood enemy, but our warfare is spiritual, against, principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against "spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places".

It is important that we gain understanding as the Lord does not use us ignorantly.

HAVE A PURE HEART AND LET YOUR WORDS BE WISE

PSALM 19:14
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer."

We see in the above verse a connection being made by the Psalmist, between the thoughts of the heart and the words of our mouth.

Jesus also makes a connection between the words of the mouth and the meditation of the heart, when He taught, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of” (Luke 6:45).

What we meditate on is key as we see that from the abundance of the heart, so the mouth speaks. This means that what a person says reveals their true thoughts and feelings. It suggests that the words a person uses are a direct reflection of what is deeply held within their heart or mind.

That is why Joshua 1:8 clarifies what our hearts are to meditate on.
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

We see that the words we speak are important, and that is both to God when we pray and to our fellowmen (people).

Proverbs 18:21
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit."

With our words, we can cancel the good that was about to take place in our lives.
We must be wise and not just speak anything and everything.
Our words can cause us to remain defeated and weak.
Just like what our hearts and minds dwell on can be the source of our failure.

Fill your heart with the Word and allow your mind to be renewed by the Word, and you will make your way prosperous and know good success.

Our thoughts and words are to be pleasing to the Lord.

IF IT WAS NOT FOR GOD WHERE WOULD YOU BE?

26 "For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord".

When we look at 1 Corinthians 1:4-9, we see that the Apostle Paul has these words to say to the church of Corinth:

"4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."

We can see that he is highlighting how for those that have come to know Christ, He has but Himself enriched in everything, in utterance/speech, in knowledge and even in being a testimony of Christ.

Some your lives have been an open book that has got some people saved, so that in no way do you come short in the gifts.
So if it was not for God, you would not be who you are and where you are today.

SO WHY DO WE BOAST? WHY DO WE BECOME PROUD?
WHY DO WE FORGET EASILY WHERE WE HAVE COME FROM?
WHY DO WE TREAT THE THINGS OF GOD LIGHTLY?

THIS IS WHY WE MUST REMIND OURSELVES THAT IF NOT FOR GOD WHERE WOULD WE BE?

Our theme passage of scripture in the verses that follow in 1 Corinthians 1: 26-31, reminds us that many of us were not wise, not many mighty, not many noble, many of us weak and despised, yet we are called. It is because God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen.

This why it is said "God qualifies the unqualified".

So if you boast, let your boasting be in the Lord and show no partiality, but become all things to all men that you may gain the world for Christ.

CONCLUSION
I love the way the ending verses 30-31, then assure us that
"But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord".

We have been clothed with Christ Jesus, because it is "Christ in us, our hope of Glory" and become that righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

WALK IN THE LIGHT

Ephesians 5:8
"Now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light."

“Walking in the light” is directly related to following Jesus, who said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12).

“Walking in the light” means we consider Jesus as “the light” in this world, and we “walk” in that light by following His precepts, living in His power, and growing in His grace.

When we walk in the light, we cannot walk in darkness. Sin is left out of our lives as we let our light “shine before men” (Matthew 5:16).
It is God’s plan for us to become more like Christ
(1 Thessalonians 4:3).

HOW to cultivate a life that is in the light of the Lord:
We have to adopt things that renew our minds and cultivate that intimacy in our relationship with Christ.

These things include:

-- Meditate on the Bible allowing the Word to pe*****te our hearts
-- Prayer (lead a prayerful life and communicate openly with the Lord.
-- Praise (Live a life of giving praise and giving thanks to God always)
-- Walk in repentance and forgiveness always (Do not excuse sin in your life but be quick to acknowledge it and get rid of it in your life. Forgive easily and practice love).

These are steps that enhance a life that promotes the Christ-like attributes and a life that is aligned to God's Word.

YOUR IDENTITY IS REVEALED BY THE FRUIT YOU BEAR

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law."

Those who are in Christ are distinguished from unbelievers in that they have been gifted with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to bear fruit. The sinner on the other hand is influenced by the sinful nature.

It is the Holy Spirit in us that has the power to conform us to the image of Christ, making us more like Him.

On the other hand, an ungodly life is one controlled by the sinful nature that every human is born with.

These acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, or**es, and such.

It is entirely up to you as an individual to come up with the truth as to which group you fall under. Pause to do an introspection of your own life.

What fruit are you bearing?
The Word of God says
"you will know them by their fruit."
One way of judging whether you belong to the Lord's side and you are growing in the Lord and maturing, is to see if those 9 characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit are increasing daily in your life.
What does your character reveal?
We identify a fruit by its features, for each fruit is very distinct.

Remember that just like a bird flies with both wings, so it is with one wing that you display the fruit of the Spirit, and with the other wing, you manifest the gifts of the Spirit.

A born again Christian whose life resembles that of the spirit, like the dove that uses both its wings to fly, is a life that will soar high.

Child of God pray and strive to live a balanced Christian life that reflects both fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

PURSUE PATIENCE, AS IT REAPS A GREAT REWARD

Psalm 37:7, ESV
"Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!"

What Is Patience?
-- Patience is a virtue. The meaning is "enduring" or "accepting".
-- Patience is the capacity to tolerate challenges or delays without getting upset, angry or frustrated.

The Benefits/Rewards of Patience:
In essence, patience in the Bible is not a passive waiting, but an active demonstration of faith, trust and love, leading to:
-- spiritual growth
-- stronger relationships
and a deeper relationship with God.
-- Patience helps you to receive God's blessings.
-- Waiting on God helps you pray and listen to God.
-- Patience builds endurance and steadfastness
-- Waiting on God helps you trust His promises.
-- Waiting on God keeps you from seeking revenge.(God says vengeance is His).

Encouragement As To Why We Must Strive To Develop PATIENCE:
-- It gives us the resilience to keep moving forward, knowing that everything will fall into place when the time is right.
-- Secondly, Patience shifts the aspect of worrying, anxiety, doubt and fear to
faith, trust, and rest in the Lord, knowing that God fulfills His promises.
-- You do not need to compare yourself with anyone, whether
one prospers in their way, and even over the one who carries out evil devices. For you know that God knows and has what is best for you.

It is very important that we develop Patience, for when Patience is at work in you; it is perfecting you and bringing on completeness in you. It will cultivate in you maturity.
