It is a profound honour to have been born and raised in the ghetto. The daily struggles, the constant battles, and the harsh realities shaped me into who I am today. But while those challenges built me, it breaks my heart to see many of the brothers I grew up with still trapped in the same pit they fell into years ago — unable to rise.
At just 12 years old, I found myself spending time in beer halls and clubs — not because I desired that life, but because of my love for football. I was simply drawn to the atmosphere where the game lived. Looking back, I can’t explain how I managed to escape the grip of drugs and destructive substances. It was nothing short of divine grace.
Each day, I carry a heavy burden — witnessing so many young men fall deeper into the drug crisis. These are my peers, my friends, my brothers. Some are now beyond reach, and others are barely holding on. And while I stand here free, I do so with scars and memories that keep me grounded and humbled.
I am eternally grateful to one man who chose to answer God’s call — Dr. Rev. J.P. Maketo — who welcomed me as a son and introduced me to the redemptive path of Christ. His guidance and love changed the course of my life.
To our church leaders, our spiritual fathers — I humbly plead with you: when I come knocking, please open your doors. Open your hearts. I'm not just seeking help for myself, but for a generation of young men who are drowning. There are boys out there who know nothing about drugs, yet they're surrounded by scavengers — predators who seek to pull them into darkness.
We must act. The streets are calling them, but the Church must call louder...
