EXODUS 3:1-3
1. Now as Moses shepherded the sheep of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burnt with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, I will now turn aside and see this great vision, why the bush is not burnt.
EXODUS 33:11 & 13-23
11 And the LORD would speak unto Moses face to face, as anyone would speak unto their friend. And he would turn again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart out of the tabernacle.
13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, show me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight; and consider that this nation is thy people. 14 And he said, My presence {Heb. faces} shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence {Heb. faces} is not to go before us, do not bring us out of here. 16 For in what shall it be known here that I have found grace in thy sight, I and thy people, but in that thou goest with us, and I and thy people will be separated from all the peoples that are upon the face of the earth? 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken because thou hast found grace in my sight, and I have known thee by name. 18 Then he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. 19 And he replied, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name that I AM before thee; and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and will show clemency on whom I will show clemency. 20 He further said, Thou canst not see my face; for no man shall see me and live. 21 And the LORD continued saying, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock; 22 and it shall come to pass while my glory passes by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock and will cover thee with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back parts, but my face {Heb. faces} shall not be seen.
ISAIAH 45:18-23
18 For thus has the LORD said that creates the heavens; God himself that forms the earth, he who made it and established it. He did not create it in vain; he created it to be inhabited; I am the LORD; and there is no one else. 19 I have not spoken in secret in a dark place of the earth. Not without substance did I say unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me; I am the LORD who speaks righteousness, who declares things that are right. 20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, all ye that are escaped of the Gentiles. They have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image and pray unto the god that does not save. 21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together; who caused this to be heard from the beginning and has declared it from that time, except me, the LORD? and there is no God beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is no one besides me. 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else. 23 I have sworn by myself; the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow; every tongue shall swear.
God is a Father who is looking for an intimate relationship with us. Now on Exodus 3 we see Moses looking after his father-in-law’s sheep. He went to Mount Horeb, (God’s Mountain). That is where he saw the burning bush. He was surprised. He sought to draw near. This means he left his route to see what was happening. God called him as he approached this spectacle. God is seeking us to come closer showing that we have interest. Coming closer means we leave whatever we are doing, our ways and concentrate on knowing what the Father wants from us.
Moses wanted to understand why the bush was burning without being consumed. God asked him to come closer. Moses responded to the call. It means Moses was a distance from the spectacle. God asked him to remove his shoes. God seeks to have every dirt removed before we approach Him. What was seen by Moses burning without consumption of the bush was the glory of God. God was showing He was holy and this was holy ground. We need to be clean for us to be closer to the Holy God and connect with Him. He doesn't connect with sinful people.
When Moses had removed his shoes God explained who He was in Moses’s life. This is God who is seeking a relationship with us. For this to happen you have to take a step and have a hunger to know Him. Today He is calling the saved to come closer so He can explain who He is. If you do not step closer God cannot explain Himself. He is calling us to a closer intimate relationship with Him. He is seeking to bond with us.
In Isaiah 45 God introduces Himself as the Creator of the heavens and earth. Beside Him there is no other. He speaks righteousness and declares right things into being. God explains He does not favour worship of idols. In several instances He explains there is no other God before Him. We are a chosen generation. To us He says He is the LORD God the true One who speaks right. Relationships are built as you walk together. Moses walked and talked with God after Horeb. By walking together they created a strong bond between them.
Moses requested to see the glory of God. There was such a relationship that Moses did not fear to see ask. Every person gets to a point where they ask what God looks like. Imagine in your brain how God looks like. This must be what was in the mind of Moses. God does not remain silent. He told Moses if he sees God's face he will die. But God did not deny him completely. He told Moses to stand at a strategic position where God was going to allow Moses to see only God's back. When you show an interest in wanting to know Him, He will not deny you. He will reveal to you a part of Him. According to Exodus 3 we can see that God looks like something. He is not just an invisible thing with a name and a voice.
When you desire, God gives instructions as He speaks, you responds and He tells you what to do. Moses stood where he was instructed to stand. He saw the backview of God. God showed His glory and stated His name. His godliness is not only in His form, it is more in His name and in His voice. We know Him through His voice and His name. So why does God remain invisible? God does it because His love is great and He is Love. In chapter 34 Moses went up the mountain for 40-days. He came back with a glory on his face. The people asked for him to wear a veil. He came down the mountain with part of the glory of God and they couldn't stand to look at Him. The glory was too much for them.
If God comes down Himself no one will survive. If people could not stand Moses’ glory what more that of God? The relationship between God and people is not like that of a father forcing himself to his children. So God want us to have a true relationship based on our love for Him not because we are afraid or because He forces Himself on us. He knows that when people have reverential fear without seeing Him they are more genuine that if He was visible with His glory burning like fire. God seeks an intimate relationship with people using our freewill without frightening us to love Him through fear.
God does not force Himself against us to remain in relationship with Him. 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NKJV), Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; As you hear His word preached, you are hearing the Father speaking. The more time you spend in His word or seeking Him the more glory He releases in your life. Even demons realize that when there is glory of God it is hot.
ROMANS 8:15
For ye have not received the spirit of bo***ge again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father
God is our Saviour and Father. He is explaining Himself. That is why He is seeking a deeper relationship with us. You are familiar with your father’s voice, his character, his needs and what he doesn’t want. If you are in a good relationship with him you seek that he remains in the house. You desire to have him nearby. A child trusts their father. They know that he brings good things for them. Such a child asks for the father’s presence when they are not seeing them.
If we have a relationship with our father, if we call Him Abba Father we must search for Him in word and everything so that His presence does not fade from us. You must be worried when He is silent and you are not feeling His presence. You must be concerned with your relationship with Him. Seek to reestablish your relationship. He may have a period of silence for whatever reason. Search for Him to find out if your relationship is the same way you do for your earthly father. Spend time with your Father. You will see His glory and His power will work in you.
Jesus Christ says His branches draw energy from the Father. The God of heaven wants a closer intimate relationship with Him. Seek Him in the many ways you can search for Him. He will show Himself so powerfully. There is a time when He will show Himself and every knees and nation will bow down. Satanists, magodobori, manjuzi, everyone who is denting Him, that moment they will have no choice than to bow down and worship Him. That time there is no salvation or seeking to build a relationship with Him. This is the time and hour to seek a relationship with Him. That time He will show Himself full for everyone to see Him. That time there will be no conversion. It is good to seek a relationship with Him now.
