We had a wonderful bible study yesterday. Using SWORD METHOD focusing on James 1:1-27.
SWORD METHOD: JAMES 1:1-27
1. WHAT CAN WE LEARN ABOUT GOD?
1. God is the Giver of good gifts “Every good and perfect gift is from above”vs 17
2. God gives wisdom generously“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously” vs 5
3. God does not tempt “God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone”vs 13
4. God brings forth new birth “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth”vs 18
5. God is unchanging and Father of lights- “with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” vs 17
2. WHAT CAN WE LEARN ABOUT MAN?
1. We face trials that test our faith vs 2-3
2. We lack wisdom and need to ask God vs 5
3. We are double-minded and unstable when we doubt vs 6-8
4. We are tempted by our own desires vs 14-15
5. We are quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger but often we fail at this vs 19
6. We can deceive ourselvesby hearing but not doing the Word vs 22-24
3. IS THERE A COMMAND TO OBEY?
Yes. James gives several:

2. “Let steadfastness have its full effect” vs 4
3. “Let him ask God for wisdom in faith, with no doubting” vs 5-6
4. “Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger” vs 19
5. “Put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness” vs 21
6. “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only” vs 22
7. “Visit orphans and widows in their affliction” vs 27
8. “Keep oneself unstained from the world”vs 27
4. IS THERE AN EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW?
1. The one who asks for wisdom in faith vs 5-6 - trusts God without doubting
2. The man who endures trial and receives the “crown of life” vs 12
3. The “doer” who looks into the perfect law and actsvs 25 - blessed in what he does
4. “Pure religion”- caring for orphans, widows, and keeping unstained vs 27
