TOPIC: THE MYSTERY OF PRAYER AND FASTING
SCRIPTURE: Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: JOEL 2:12.
Fasting amplifies and intensifies our desperation and desire for God's needed intervention.
The Scripture makes it clear that fasting is a necessity in the life of every believer. It is a proven tool for the operation and manifestation of the supernatural, as demonstrated throughout Scripture.
There are people in Scripture who did unusual things by virtue of fasting and prayer. People like Moses, Paul the Apostle, Esther, Elijah, etc.
Before we can define what fasting is, let us clarify what it is not.
1. Fasting is not punishing yourself until God is forced to hear you. Some people think, "Let me punish myself. Let me just finish myself for God." Fasting is not punishing yourself or suffering yourself until God is forced to hear you.
2. Fasting is not an attempt to change God's position on any issue. His position is constant. It is an attempt to align with God's position and purpose. God's position was already firm concerning Nineveh. It was not God's position that changed; it was the people who aligned themselves with God's purpose that averted the judgment.
Now that we know what fasting is not, what then is fasting?
1. Fasting is abstinence from food or pleasure for a period in order to establish God's purpose and plan. And the number one purpose of God is kingdom advancement—seeking first the kingdom of God.
2. Fasting amplifies and intensifies our desperation and desire for God's needed intervention (Joel 2:12).
That is, you express your desperation at the place of the fast.
Esther said in Esther 4:16, "If I perish, I perish." She was expressing desperation at the place of fasting and prayer.
Now, what are the products of Fasting?
▪︎The establishment of Divine plan, purpose, and prophecy. We see this clearly in the life of Daniel, in Daniel 9:1-3.
▪︎The aversion of impending danger and judgment. When danger hangs in the air, when judgment looms, it can be averted through fasting. This was witnessed in Nineveh. We also saw it with Esther and the Jews.
▪︎The termination of enemy captivity, bo***ge, and yokes. The Bible declares that we can break every yoke through fasting (Isaiah 58:6).
▪︎The breaking forth of light and insight from the Word. This is promised in Isaiah 58:8: "Your light shall break forth."
▪︎The springing forth of health (Isaiah 58:8). Your health can spring forth through fasting. Health is a proven benefit of fasting, and it is medically confirmed.
Beloved, supernatural strength, stamina, and energy are products of fasting. You are not permitted to be a weakling if you understand the power of fasting. If you can fast, you will last because to fast is to last.
Remember this: Fasting amplifies and intensifies our desperation and desire for God's needed intervention.
WHAT TO DO TO ENJOY THE RESULTS OF FASTING:
1. Don't fast to impress people or God.
2. Ensure you don't fast without active spiritual engagement- praying, studying the word of God, and deep worship.
PRAYER: Father, as I wait on You in this season, baptise me with the discipline to fast correctly and productively, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DECLARATION/WORD: Grace and discipline for a fasted life is released for you now in Jesus’ Name.
