THE MINISTRY OF A TEACHER
The teaching ministry in most cases is taken as secondary, disregarded and yet Jesus lists it among the five ministry gifts he gave to the church with the objective of equipping the saints for the work of the ministry.
Key text
Ephesians 4:11-13 (CSB) 11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.
The most important thing is he gave gifts that are complimentary
meaning no gift is of less importance than the other.The five fold is there to compliment each other and archive one goal equipping the saints. The teaching ministry like any other ministry is God given for the benefit of the body of Christ not for personal gain. Leading us to a very crucial point that a true teacher of the word should practise his gift faithfully
Our model
Jesus is the model of teaching ministry Mathew 8:19 the scribe addresses him as teacher. In Matthew 12:38 Scribes and Pharisees agreed he is a teacher. Nicodimus in John 3:16 said Rabbi meaning teacher his disciples and enemies all called him teacher. Every minister should strive to teach. Teaching involves plainly exposing the scriptures line by line, grounding and bringing belivers to maturity in doctrine and faith . Jesus said go ye and make disciples teaching them to observe. The ultimate goal of a teaching ministry is transformation. Acts 1:1b) says the things that Jesus began to do and teach. His ministry was a teaching ministry using simple yet profound illustrations that left people transformed.
His command.
Matthew 28:20 (KJV) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
Believers needs to be taught ( teaching ministry)
A grounded and observeing believer can easily detective error and avoid it. There is a fine line between truth and error and those who are well versed in scripture are able to rightfully divide it.
Paul as a model
Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:2 (KJV) And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
True doctrine is preserved when faithful men teach others also. Effective teaching ministry should transcend generations.
