"Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, or even at their difficulty, as at the love with which we do them." St Therese of Lisieux.
At the heart of mission is spreading the love of God that culminated in the death of his own Son on the cross. It is as if St Therese of Lisieux gives a good interpretation of 1 Corinthians 13. We can do many things, prophesy, speak in tongues, teach eloquently but it is in vain if done without love. Spread the love for God in you by sharing it with humanity that is so much in love. Mission is love in action. The love for God urges us to reach out to the other. "And now these three remain: Faith, hope and love. And the greatest of these is love"

The Church is the Sacrament of the Kingdom of God on earth. The Kingdom of God is a diverse and inclusive kingdom. Religious life is a great manifestation of this unity and diversity. As the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill we embrace this cultural and international diversity.

'No one shows greater love than when he lays down his life for his friends.' (John 15:3)
Today we celebrate the memorial of Blessed Engelmar Unzeitig known as the 'Angel of Dachau'. Engelmar's life was a testament to the above scripture, especially when the typhoid outbreak hit the concentration camp in December 1944. Together with 19 other priests he layed down his life to take care of the typhoid patients in the camp by bathing them, feeding them and annointing them. He was indeed a 'martyr of brotherly love'. He eventually contracted the disease and died on 2 March 1945 at the tender age of 34. He lived his religious call to the full. Simply put a religious is one who lays down his life for his friends in service to the Gospel.

Mary said, 'You see before you the Lord's servant, let it happen to me as you have said. '... (Luke 1:38). Every call involves election by God and response to that call. God has chosen you and wants you to follow him.

"Believe what you read, preach what you believe and practice what you preach". Diaconate ordination of missionaries in Mariannhill Monastery, Mariannhill, South Africa. Proclammation of the Good News to those who do yet believe in Christ and to all at large is at the heart of the CMM charism.

Born at Norcia in Umbria about the year 480 AD, St Benedict is commonly known as the Father of Western Monasticism. Between 525 and 529 AD he founded the monastery of Montecassino where he wrote the Benedictine Rule for his monks. Part of the rule is the dedicated practice of prayer and work, 'Ora et Labora'. The Cistercians of the Strict Observance commonly known as the Trappists put great emphasis on the strict observance prayer and work. Abbot Francis a dedicated Trappist and our founder is the man through whom we find our connection to Saint Benedict. Hence the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill are contemplatives (prayer) in action (active missionary work). Happy feast day of St Benedict!

On the ordination of Fr. Peter Otieno CMM the 29th June 2023, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kisumu his grace Mourice Makumba said," There nothing causal about Priesthhood, we need to know who we are." He added, reflecting on the Gospel of Matthew," when the christian come to you a priest they are asking, what shall I do 'Father' in order to inherit the kingdom of God?" He pointed out that," By all means priest should not be the reason people should not go to heaven." Congratulations Fr Peter Otieno Otieno CMM
