TRUSTWORTHY MENTORSHIP
PART TWO (2)
Building On The Unshakable Foundation:
Kingdom Truth and the Unity of the Body.
Introduction: The Architecture of Unity!
The Church of Jesus Christ is often described in Scripture as a building—a holy temple in
which God dwells by His Spirit. Yet, as any architect will tell you, the strength of a structure
is not found in its outward ornaments or the eloquence of its designers, but in the integrity
of its 'foundation' and the precision of its construction. Today, we address a recurring
tragedy in the history of the Church that is 'division'.
Division among believers is rarely a matter of simple disagreement; it is often the byproduct
of a "knowledge gap"—a failure to grasp or transmit the fullness of Kingdom Truth.
To build the Body of Christ effectively, we must move beyond the cult of personality and return to the rigorous, faithful stewardship of the Word of God. We explore this through the lens of the Corinthian crisis and the apostolic charge given to Timothy.
(1). The Danger of the Knowledge Gap: Lessons from
Apollos and Corinth.
In the book of Corinthians , Apostle Paul confronts a church fractured by factions. The believers
were rallying around names: "I follow Paul," or "I follow Apollos."
''1 Corinthians 3:4''
To understand why this
division occurred, we must look at the man Apollos as he is introduced in the book of Acts :-.
Apollos was a man of remarkable talent—eloquent, fervent in spirit, and "mighty in the
Scriptures." However, the text notes a critical limitation: he knew only the baptism of John.
'Acts 18: 24-25'
While he spoke accurately about Jesus, his knowledge was incomplete. He lacked the full
revelation of the Christian baptism into the death and resurrection of Christ and the
subsequent outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
"He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him,
they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately." (Acts 18:26).
When partial truth is preached with great eloquence, it can inadvertently create "camps" of
followers who are more devoted to the messenger than the message. In Corinth, this
"knowledge gap" contributed to a carnal environment where believers viewed spiritual
leaders as rivals rather than fellow workers. Paul’s correction in Corinthians : is
definitive: "For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus
Christ."
Unity is compromised when we build on the "partial" or the "personality." It is restored
when we, like Priscilla and Aquila, prioritize the "more accurate" handling of Kingdom
Truth.
(2). The Mandate for Mature Stewardship: The Chain of
Truth,
Recognizing the danger of incomplete knowledge.
Apostle Paul provided a blueprint for the preservation of the Church in his second letter to Timothy.
In the book of Timothy, we find the
"Great Commission of Pedagogy":
"And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful
men, who will be able to teach others also."
Paul’s concern was the purity and trustworthiness of the message. He did not want
Timothy to innovate or to offer a "personalized" version of the Gospel. Instead, Timothy
was to be a steward of a sacred deposit.
The Four Generations of Truth's Role in the Body:
(i)Paul The Apostolic Source (The Revelation).
(ii)Timothy The Faithful Steward. (The Transmission)
(iii)Faithful Men The Proven Teachers (The Multiplication)
(iv)Others Also The Growing Body (The Fruit).
Division is often the result of a "broken link" in this chain. When teachers lack "adequate and thorough knowledge," they pass on a diluted or distorted faith. To build the Body, we
must ensure that every "workman" in the chain is anchored in the same Kingdom Truth,
ensuring that the message remains "purest" from one generation to the next.
(3). The Diligence of the Approved Workman.
Finally, Paul provides the personal standard for every believer and teacher who desires to
see the Body unified and strong. In the book of Timothy, he writes:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need
to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."The phrase "rightly handling" (Greek: orthotomeō) literally means "to cut a straight path." It suggests the precision of a tentmaker or a mason. If a stone is cut crookedly, the entire wall
will eventually lean and collapse.
The "division" we see today is often the result of "crooked cutting"—misinterpreting
Scripture to fit cultural trends, personal biases, or denominational pride. Paul’s call to
"study" or "be diligent" is the antidote to the knowledge gap.
• Approval comes from God, not from the applause of a faction.
• Diligence prevents shame, ensuring that when we stand before the Chief Architect, our
work remains.
• Precision fosters peace, for when we all align with the "straight path" of Truth, we
naturally align with one another.
Conclusion: Building for Eternity.
The Body of Christ is not built on the shifting sands of human eloquence or the narrow
interests of a sect. It is built on the Kingdom Truth that was once for all delivered to the
saints.
When we bridge the knowledge gap through diligent study, when we commit to the
accurate transmission of the Gospel, and when we refuse to let personalities overshadow
the Person of Christ, we become the "approved workmen" the Church so desperately needs.
Let us commit today to being like Apollos after his meeting with Priscilla and Aquila—
mighty in the Scriptures, but humble enough to be corrected, so that our labor might not result in division, but in the glorious, unified building of the Temple of God.
Devout yourselves to reading scripture to understand more about God's kingdom and don't forget to pray to God to give you wisdom and understanding of the Holy scriptures.
