The article is not mine but Rev Fr BK NWOHA of Nigeria, let us reasons together.
I posted here last month that a polygamous man dragged me in the village into his home to bless the new child of his SECOND WIFE.
I went into the home, gathered them, man and wives, prayed over the baby and on parents to be able to provide for the sustenance of the baby.
After that, I told them that if they have chosen to be Christians freely they have to work towards repairing the unholy union and have one man, one wife. The man smiled and said he'll work on it.
His joy was gigantic on having the priest praying for his child and as a new convert, it'll move him/them further towards perfection.
Did I bless their child? YES
Did I bless the polygamous couple?
YES
Did I bless their union? NO
Did they assume their union has been officialised or approved?
NO
This is an example of simple blessings for irregular unions which the Vatican is talking about which has nothing to do with blessing the marriage.
If this has always happened for cohabiting couples without marriage, divorced (and sometimes remarried) couples, single s*xually sinful individuals or other grave sins, then it's no issue if it's done for same s*x couples.
A blessing is just a sacramental and like other sacramentals, don't give grace automatically like sacraments, but can lead to grace when the person aligns himself to God's will. The church can't deny opportunities to push people to God's will.
